Coraline 3D

I am a huge fan of Neil Gaiman, whose book is what the movie is based on. The movie was good, until the final 15 minutes. Why did they have to change the story to this awful ending? Coraline saves the day herself in the book with her own ideas and cleverness, but here she's rescued by a boy, a character invented just for the movie. I left the movie so angry!

I really liked the movie as well. The friend whom I saw it with had read the book, and he pointed out the changed ending (see PP's comment), and once I knew about that, I went and read the book and found myself wishing the movie had kept the original ending as well. But still, and enjoyable movie overall.

We LOVED it! It was so fun and cute and still had the Neil Gaiman eerieness that he carries.
I know it wasn't exactly true to the story by N.G. but I always try to take movies and books as separate entities. (ie: Harry Potter, this movie, Wizard of Oz, etc) So when I think of it as it's own movie, I LOVED IT!! :thumbsup2

Sadly, I must admit that I have never really found Tim Burton's works to be that entertaining. :duck:

One of my only complaints about Burton would be that he needs to lay off of Johnny Depp when it comes to casting. Johnny Depp+Sweeney Todd=Um, doesn't work. I couldn't believe he got an Oscar nomination for that role. Johnny Depp was basically playing the role of "Johnny Depp in period costume and make-up". Now, Burton's work from the 90's is a whole other topic--I love most of it.

As for Coraline, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

My DDs 4 and 5 were scared watching Monster House. Would this one be off-limits for viewing at the theater?

hmmmmmmmm... I'd advise a pre-screening by adults first. "Other Mother" is pretty awful. My grandkids were unfazed but they're tough.

I initially scanned this as "...he needs to lay Johnny Depp..." and got all excited for a moment. :rolleyes1

That would be filed under "Creepiest Hook-Up Ever". But that's just me. ;)

I wouldn't try it. When we went, I saw a lot of little kids who were terrified. I mean, Other Mother, ghost children, and sewing eyes are pretty scary. Not to mention the old lady in the Venus outfit! :rotfl:

OMG!
Edward Scissorhands - is one of my all time fave movies
