Although I know the reviews on this restaurant are mixed at best, my family is interested in going there on our next trip. Our youngest was never there and loves the idea of seeing the sea life while eating. However, our last experience there (which is more than 10 years ago) was mildly disappointing - but not terrible.

We all love fish and the menu is appealing - but I'm just not sure if it's time to give Coral Reef a second chance.

I am not a fan. I have been a few times and its just not very good quality seafood. It always taste like its been frozen. I always describe it as similar to Redlobster.

Agree. My daughter LOVES eating next to the aquarium, but the food is just so-so. I would pick something else.

Our Recommendations:
. . . appys:... Steamed Mussels, Crab Cakes
. . . entree:.. Grilled New York Strip Steak, Grilled Mahi-Mahi
. . . dessert:. Baileys and Jack Daniel's Mousse
.
NOTE1: The Coral Reef is a nice respite from normal dining, as is the wall which is the
aquarium. One sees fish and sees divers tending to the fish and tank. Best views are
from the second seating level, not right up against the tank. For best dishes, try the
Mussels for an appy and the Mahi for the entrée. Other seafoods are not good choices.
The non-fish selections (eg. rubber chicken) are run of the mill or worse. New York Strip
and Smashed Potatoes is always a good choice, Tell them to rest steaks before service
at the table. Service can be spotty - be prepared for slow waitresses. For those looking
for a quiet and romantic outing, this is a place to pass, the high noise level drowns
out most conversations.
.
NOTE2: As a side point, some people fear a "fishy smell". If the fish is fresh, cooked
properly, and the kitchen ventilated well, there is no fish-smell. I have yet to see or
experience such at Coral Reef.

Hmmm ... May want to reconsider this. We live down the Jersey Shore and we are used to good, fresh seafood. This might be a mistake.

We had a pretty bad experience the one and only time we ate there. We were very much looking forward to eating there as our family loves to Dive at the Seas and has enjoyed looking at the restaurant from the inside.

The food was terrible and the service was bad. There are so many great places to eat at EPCOT, we would rather eat somewhere else.

Coral Reef is probably the worst meal I've had on property but it has been a while since I've been there. I was just talking to someone about giving it another shot to see if it is as bad as I remember.

So this is why I'm not a fan. I may be harsher than most but I grew up with fresh seafood from the gulf coast so Coral Reef doesn't do it for me.

We used to love coral reef but last trip really was disappointing. The server was so slow and they were busy. The food wasn't too good and they forgot our dessert. We aren't going back any time soon

I'll report back in two weeks.

DS really wants to eat at Coral Reef. I tried to gently guide him to some place else but he was set on Coral Reef. We will be there for lunch.

I had an excellent lunch there 2 weeks ago. I had the mahi-mahi and the turtle cheesecake. I booked my ADR for the 11:30am opening and had my choice of tank side tables. Wonderful waiter who was excited to be there and worked hard for a very good tip. I am a solo diner so it is rare for me to have wonderful service (most waiters see a solo diner and figure small tip in proportion to larger table so are either lacklustre, absent or occasionally hostile). My entree of mahi-mahi was perfectly cooked and the shrimp side was even perfectly cooked . . . still a bit of a bite to it vs the usual mush. Probably less than 3 mins from plating to on my table. Wonderfully positive service compared to one year ago. Looks like the wait staff and possibly manager have been overhauled in the past year. One of my best meals during a 2 week vacation. I would strongly recommend the earliest ADR seating that you can find or your family is prepared to eat at. This restaurant backs up with seating the later in the day you go. Look, Coral Reef will never be the same quality as a signature dining experience like Flying Fish. But it can be very good. I will go back again.

Ate there 2 years back, the two dishes we had aren't served there at the moment (Lobster Cannelloni, Pork Belly). We both enjoyed our meals (our table was against the glass and a sea turtle was sleeping there the entire meal). No complaints about noise/service/etc.

We've ate there every trip and have only had one so so meal and it was the last time. I've had Mahi Mahi a couple times and the steak. Mahi Mahi is easily overcooked and it was on this last trip which is why it was so so. Atmosphere is great, one of the best on property, service has always been excellent for us. Servers never too pushy or as I call one and done see ya. One thing that sticks out to me is we never see kids running all over the place or people being extremely rude trying to get up by the glass. This was a big concern the first time we ate there. All in all it is an average place to eat and we know this going in. We are not expecting a 5 star meal but we are expecting something better than the food courts and it always has been for us.

I have avoided going there because of the mixed reviews, but I knew my DS9 would love the tank, so I bit the bullet last month and went for the first time. We had a great experience because sitting at the tank was amazing, our server was great (very attentive and fun) and my son LOVED his mac and cheese. My food was fine. I would go back for the tank and because my son liked it so much. It was definitely a meal to enjoy the experience and not necessarily the food.

A couple of years ago, that was THE PLACE both kids agreed on after having multiple TS meals during the prior trip. I would compare the food to Red Lobster. The atmosphere is great (we prefer to sit back a bit to see better). My DD didn't care for the pasta so the waitress brought her a yummy dessert to fill her up. I would go back if the family wanted to.

We ate there 2 weeks ago for dinner and it was fantastic. We were seated right away and had a super server. The food was really good. I had a seafood pasta dish and my DH had the steak. The good food paired with the ambience of the restaurant made it our favorite meal of the trip.

We had lunch at the Coral Reef Monday. It was very good! My expectations were very low after reading a number of poor reviews and I must say, it was like we were at a completely different restaurant than the one visited by the reviewers.

We sat up on the highest tier, no tank side tables available. The view was good and I think we ended up seeing more creatures than if we had been next to the tank.

We thought the atmosphere was relaxing, it made for a great break in the day. (we were not on any type of dining plan)

DH and I both had the octopus appetizer, DS had the bisque. DS ended up eating part of both our apps. The octopus was so good, I wish I would have asked for a double order as a lunch entrée. Our mains were shrimp and grits, the scampi and the mahi. We thought the shrimp and grits and the mahi were excellent, the scampi was like any other pasta dish one might get at any restaurant, not bad but nothing exceptional. There were some nice selections on the wine list and the pours were far more generous than I expected.

I think it is worth noting that the menu is limited. The table next to us was annoyed/frustrated because the restaurant wasn't offering the type of selection they wanted. The price point of this restaurant is pretty high as well and no doubt that adds to strong opinions as well.

I always order the Trout entree ($23) and have never been disappointed.

More recently, I enjoyed the Octopus appetizer ($12) as well.

We stick with the seafood and have generally found that the price meets quality.

First time there, not so good. We've eaten there two more times since then and it was really good. I had a lobster pasta dish (that they no longer have on the menu). We ate there a little over 2 months ago and I had New York Strip steak and really enjoyed it. I would go back again based on my last two visits.
