Coral Reef or 50's

I can't decide if we should do Coral Reef or 50's. We are on the DP. So I feel that we will get more for our TS credit if we do Coral Reef, but I think DD (6) will like 50's better. :confused3 . Or maybe I should just pay OOP for 50's and do both?
Any suggestions.

We had dinner this past Friday night at the Coral Reef, and were very disappointed. Each of our party of four had different entrees, and none of us cared for them. In fact, not one of us even ate half the food on the plate. Bill was around $240 with drinks--very expensive for the poor quality of the food. (We were on the dining plan so cost wasn't a factor).

The place was EXTREMELY busy, and the servers were pushing people through as fast as they could. They were not being discourteous, but spent very little time at each table, and rushed the courses.

The restaurant is very nice, and the aquarium is fascinating, but we won't go back.

Wow, tough choice :confused3 At first I was going to say skip Coral Reef because the portions are a little on the small side but if you are on the dining plan then that won't be a problem :teeth: So, I would have to say that IMHO you would get more "bang for your buck" doing Coral Reef. Even though the "atmosphere" is not the same as 50's PTC, I think your DD will still have a good time. :sunny:

I've seen photos of food from CR where the portions looked very small. They were all taken last year when CR was a 2 TS Signature Restaurant.

I ate there last month and the portions were large. In fact, I left there so full I was uncomfortable.

I had the Ceasar Salad with Grilled Chicken Breast. It was an entire chicken breast.

I had the NY Strip steak, which was a normal restaurant-sized steak (probably around 12oz to 14oz). It came with asparagus, baby carrots, and au gratin potato casserole. It was all delicious...the steak was PERFECT!

For dessert I had the Chocolate Wave, which was like a little piece of heaven. I was already stuffed, but ate almost the entire dessert anyway because it was so good.

They also bring unlimited bread to the table.

I haven't eaten at 50s PT yet, but I can't imagine for a second that it could be better food or a better value.

FWIW, even though I know 50s is a "fun" restaurant, my kids loved CR. They were each given a fish directory, so they spent the entire time we were there trying to identify every fish that swam past.

They are so totally different it makes it hard to choose BUT...

We had a great experience at Coral Reef with our 6 yr old son, (this was a couple of years ago). We got to sit right next to the aquarium and he loved watching the fish!

We went at lunch and requested the first seating so it was not crowded. The menu was upscale, and Mommystieg is right that the portions are smaller but we enjoyed everything about our meal.

I would definitely go back. I think it is such a unique place, not like anything at home. I know ‘50’s is fun, and one of the better choices at MGM but given the choice I would do CR.

Coral Reef was just *okay* for us. But 50's PT has always been a great *Disney* experience for us, and I'd choose it any day over CR.

I was at the Coral Reef recently and it seems that they are now changing their menu every 6months or so. A few of the signature items remain like to wonderful Lobster Bisque and the Catfish!!! Yummy!!! Now they have a lovely loster salad served with two pieces of bread for lunch. It is so good!!!!
