Coral reef for dessert on Hooneymoon trip

Congrats on your upcoming honeymoon trip!

We were at Coral Reef at the end of August for dinner, so maybe dessert only for honeymoon would be different, but......

We didn't have that great of an experience. The place was CRAZY packed and our poor server was obviously very busy. He did an adequate job under the circumstances, but there was nothing even a little bit special about the service. We were celebrating my husband's graduation and son's first trip, but no one mentioned either one. We were seated in the back of the restaurant (there were 5 of us, though, maybe with only 2 you would have a better shot at a tank table).

The food (dessert included) was not very good. I hate to say this, b/c CR was one of our favorite meals of our 2009 trip. I would think you would be better off going somewhere else......Can you order dessert only at California Grill? I've seen some amazing "special" pics from there!!!!:thumbsup2

Good luck!!

I am afraid I would go with the above poster - I wouldn't go in there expecting anything romantic, nor would I do it just for dessert unless it's the dessert itself you are after and not the atmosphere. I also am not sure what you mean by "something special." What is it you are hoping will happen?

Maybe something free like for my birthday 2 yrs ago I got a free dessert.I picked Coral for the tank view and like there desserts, but not a big fan of there food menu and also have planned a romantic dinner at Nacrosse.

If all you are going in for is the dessert, I don't think you can count on them giving it to you for free. Maybe if you ordered a whole meal they might throw in the dessert depending on how mangnanimous they feel on that day. Go if they have desserts you like, but you may need to plan to pay for your dessert.

Most places have you pay for dessert then give you a free one as a bonus but that was when I ate dinner at those places.

Whats the odds of them doing something special if we go for dessert only at Coral Reef?

1) Exactly what are you expecting? *
. . . treats?
. . . party favors?
. . . entertainment?
. . . special treatment?
2) Disney doesn't do things for free.
3) If you want something special, just order and pay for it.

* Not trying to be sarcastic. Just trying to figure what you are asking.

I think I'm in the minority, but my family had lunch at Coral Reef when we were at Epcot in September, and it was excellent. Service was good, food was tasty.

I had the Chocolate Wave and it was incredible. I would recommend it.

It's probably not romantic, because the seating is all open, but it is dark, for what that's worth. Most restaurants at Disney are kid-friendly, obviously, so if you're going for an adult-only atmosphere, try one of the signature restaurants at the Grand Floridian.

We went to the Coral Reef for our Disneymoon and had a wonderful time. I like that the lighting is low and the aquarium is great! We love aquariums and fish... so it was great for us! We also had a late reservation, so the crowd was a bit more adult than other times we have been. We have gotten a few things for free at the restaurants... little things that make our evening special. Often there were little decorations (mickey confetti) in the shape of a heart on the table, or a card waiting for us.
1. La Boma - little desserts with a card (don't have pic of card)

2. Le Cellier - two glasses of sparkling wine (yes, for free!) with strawberries... and a special dessert plate.

3. Coral Reef - special decorations on our crême brulée... at least I don't remember it looking like that!

Ok thanks but my main reason is the fish tank for going there so I am sure I will be happy with the outcome.:cool1:

As for getting something special if you go and just order dessert -- I wouldn't count on it, but you never know. You could get a glass or two of wine. :)

I also wanted to share a few pics of our trip to the Coral Reef, which we enjoyed very much. Here's the link from my trip report -- it has a photo of the Chocolate Wave dessert, a delicious beverage I ordered, and some pics of the interior of the restaurant.
