Coral Reef Divers

Do they still do the divers or personalized menu at Coral Reef?

These services were discontinued in 2009.

1) The root of the problem was guest greed.
2) CM's and divers could not get their regular jobs done due to requests.
3) The Internet spread the menus and the people went crazy.

4) Speaking of going crazy, that was the other reason.
. . . people would be late for their ADR
. . . they missed the divers
. . . the divers had other work and could not return
. . . they sometimes would then YELL & SWEAR to get the divers back
. . . when divers didn't come back, they complained ever louder

. . . people would send in bunches of picture to be printed
. . . there wouldn't be room for all of them on the menu
. . . the guest would be upset because the "important" picture was missing
. . . they would want the menu reprinted
. . . of course, the pictures were deleted by then

Which I think , please don't flame, has a lot to do with these boards in a way.
People come here often and discuss something magical happening and then we all expect to have the same exact thing. It get blown out of proportion and then Disney says enough. Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy.

Absolutely. I can see requesting something like that for a special moment. But, not just because you're eating at Coral Reef..or, making an ADR at Coral Reef so you could get that special treatment. And that happened a lot.
I know that many years ago, we went on our first cruise. It was a very big deal for us. We spent a few days at WDW first. So, our last meal at WDW was at Coral Reef. When I made the ADR, the CM asked if we were celebrating anything special. Told her not really, just spending a few days at WDW before our first Disney cruise on the Wonder. She mentioned that it might be possible to have something fun happen and to give her the names of the people in our party. Okay....figured nothing would happen. But imagine my surprise when we were seated right next to the tank and a diver came down, holding a sign that said....Enjoy your cruise on the Wonder..with all our names on it, and a big bon voyage from Ariel!!! We still have that in our scrapbook.

But so many people started calling and requesting it that it got out of hand. And just like everything else at WDW, once it gets out that one person has had something 'magical' happen, everyone wants it for their family. And when it doesn't happen, the complaints start. So, Disney has halted a lot of the special things you used to get.

There was also the fact that the Coral Reef manager's direct phone number got out on this board and probably others, and she was inundated with calls to that line from people who wanted personalized menus and divers, and they got anxious when she didn't call them back in what they considered an acceptable time, and left yet more messages. She transferred to another restaurant about the time the services were discontinued. Don't know if she asked to be transferred or if it was just a normal staff rotation.

ohh lordy. This was just the thread I was looking for and I guess that's all over with boo. Although completely understandable.

Can you still order a birthday cake to have? Does anyone know how to go about that? I have ordered them on the fireworks cruises before but not at a restaurant.

Any help would be great

I never experienced either the divers or the personalized menu, but I read about it a few years ago and thought it would be a neat thing to plan for someone I love one day.

I wonder why Disney doesn't attach a fee and continue to do it?

They could control the demand for the service, by the amount of money charged. They could even stipulate that if you miss your ADR time, you forfeit your money.

Perhaps the CMs were so turned off by the whole experience with the greedy guests, that they did not want to even continue. That's sad.
