Copyright Dilemma

maybe yes, maybe no.

I can't confirm this to be true. This was told to me by someone who owns a brothers embroidery sewing machine. It is the only company that hold a license from Disney to embroider Disney characters using pattern(s) in the machine.

They said they were wearing an embroidered mickey tee shirt. they were approached in the magic kingdom and told to remove the shirt. If they refused they would be escorted from the park.

That was crazy. They could make it, but not wear it.

What!? I was thinking about buying one of those machines.

So how do people make/sell Mickey Mouse/other Disney character stuff on etsy?

I find this hard to believe. People wear there homemade Disney shirts to the parks all the time. I don't believe for one second that the person in the parks has the kind of knowledge to know the patterns of every official Disney shirt ever produced.

As I said, heard it but don't know how true.

I appreciate that, but you still aren't a lawyer. I hope you aren't reading my posts as trying to be harsh but I've known people who've taken legal advice from people who are not lawyers and it doesn't usually end well.
I will stand by my statement, if you're not a lawyer you shouldn't be handing out legal advice.

I'll go one step further. Don't rely on legal advice being given for free on the internet (even from lawyers). You have no idea if he's an expert in that field. If he's licensed in your state. How much he'll charge if you need representation.

A poster suggested bundling the stained glass with a crock pot. People tried that with award airline tickets. It doesn't work. Ebay shut down their auctions just as fast as the sellers who were selling tickets without the charade.

Give (or sell it) to a friend or relative makes the most sense. My understanding is Ebay checks auctions for possible violations. Use the term Disney and your auction might get flagged.

Not all the Disney stained glass patterns are licensed. Google found this site
http://pdqpatterns.com/customer_gallery/customer_disney.html

Now if you can find out what pattern was used, and if the pattern was licensed by Disney and if the license allows for sale of the finished product you should be OK.

I can't offer any legal advice, but I WANT TO SEE A PICTURE!!! The stained glass sounds amazing!

EBAY is really touchy on things like this. I had a pair of ACIS sneakers listed with several bidders, and my auction was flagged and removed, simply because I stated in the auction that I had purchased them for a Zumba class, and they didn't fit. I didn't think anything about it, until I got an e-mail from EBAY stating that my auction had been ended because of misrepresentation or misuse of a copyrighted name. :confused3
I would just sell them locally to a friend or family member. Wish you lived close to me. ;)
Good Luck!

This is NOT true. I own 2 brother embroidery machines and make our shirts to wear to WDW. I have made shirts the last 3 trips and no one said anything but nice compliments. You can make them for personnel use but you are not supposed to sell them (we don't).
