We decided to do a little information post on what we experienced on the first weekend CCV were open.
When you arrive at the security gate as usual a photo ID and magic band with reservation were required. When we pulled into the parking lot it was almost empty so finding a place close to park was not a problem.
Walking into the lobby it was empty. We arrived around 12:30 pm and the Whispering Canyon Cafe was pretty much empty.
We do not do on line check in so we had to go to the front desk. Check in went smooth and the cast member was very helpful and happy to be back to work.
Our room was ready right away. We figured it would be since I estimated there only to be about 50 to 100 people in the resort.
Got to the room it was nice and clean.
We were with friends and the plan was to hang at the quiet pool. We were able to find a cabana and we brought food and drinks with us so we were set. We do this with our friends two to three times a year. Most of the people at the DVC pool were doing the exact same thing. There were only a few children at that pool, and every cabana and table that could be occupied had snacks and cocktail makings out. Geiser Point was serving but take away only, and the quick service counter was closed.
We noticed minimal staffing due to the low occupancy but were more than adequate to handle what needed to be done.
After the pool we had dinner reservations at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. We were one of eight tables at 8pm (we had a 7pm seating and there was no issue changing it last minute to 8pm) and were one of the last tables seated. Service was excellent and the food was very good. My wife and I had the Land and Sea skillet. When we left where was only one table left and that was a little after 9pm. We wanted to go the the gift shop after dinner, however it closed at 9pm. As the resort gets busier hopefully they will stay open later. We went to Roaring Fork snack bar. They were still open, it was late and there were very limited items. No Magic bars at that time. Spent the rest of the night in the room.
Sunday morning we checked out. We do not put a credit card on file so we went to the front desk. Once again the lobby was empty. Whispering Canyon Cafe had a hand full of people eating breakfast. We went to the store and there was 3 cast members and one other family in the store. The store is one way in, one way out.
After checking out, we drove over to Poly and had lunch at Kona at noon. We were 1 of 5 tables. The parking lot was basically empty as was the hotel lobby. The first floor store was actually pretty busy with about 10-12 families shopping, and the main pool looked busy.
It was pretty sad but hopefully in a few weeks it will get better.
Here are some pictures of the resort and the new signs.
