Copper Creek or Polynesian?

Which one would you purchase? Family of 4, 7 year old girls. We stayed at and love Poly, but its obviously expensive and has the only-studios issue (we were fine in a studio). We went to Artist Point and really liked Wilderness Lodge but thats the extent of our knowledge of it. It seems like both are good deals right now, but Poly is unlikely to be ROFR'd.

Is it difficult to book at Copper Creek? Are all the rooms smaller or just the studios? We *think* we'd want to stay there but haven't so you can't be sure. From our point chart investigating, we think we're in the 200 range (but don't worry I'm sure I'll come back to ask about that too). I don't want to deal with struggling to find a reservation and from some podcasts I've listened to I think that could be a problem? I'm a teacher so we are mostly likely to be traveling at more peak times/summer.

The pool is really important to kids (CC's didn't look as nice?) as is the daily "pool party". Parents appreciated the easy transportation to two parks. Are there any other places I should look? Any feedback?

No hate at all for Poly, but we just love the vibe at WL and getting to 300 to 500 points at CCV is high on our goals list in the coming years.

The other huge wildcard here is the new tower at Poly (poly2). Will it be in the same association and will the extra rooms be something you want to have access to? Might it be wise to wait just a bit more and see if it is the same association to help you make your decision?

We decided to make CCV our MK area home, but I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them, it’s just what you want/love for your family. I would want to wait and see what happens with Poly2. The other thing to consider is what kind of deals you might be able to get with direct points when they open that up. Direct points will have some value in the long run as more resorts convert over and if they are in the same association they might not have the resale restrictions. If you can get Poly direct for not much more than resale, might be worth it…..

I would target Poly since they are not buying back those contracts which means you can negotiate your best possible deal and not worry the ROFT monster will eat your deal. Given the price point CCV is being bought back at, you might save $25 or more per point.

I would go with Poly because you have stayed there and love it.

You can always buy more points at WL in the future if you stay there and love it too ;)

I like the fact that CCV has all different room types. It can be difficult to book studios certain times of the year. If you own there, you should have a good chance of getting what you want most times of the year. I don't think the summer is too bad to book there, but they have lowered the points for summertime so it may change.

IMO: agree with pp, both are great resorts and you won’t go wrong with either one.

To answer your question, yes CCV rooms are smaller. CCV studio 338 sq ft total of 78 studio (36 of these studios are lock off). Poly studios 447 sq ft, 360 studios. (One more example: CCV 1br 675 sq ft vs BLT 1br 803 sq ft.).
Yes, it is hard to book CCV during popular travel times, especially October through December.

Both are lovely and has pros and cons. The volcano pool at Polly is awesome! Easy for parents to sit around the pool and see their children. Being on the monorail gives you easy access to BLT & GF.
WL is beautiful, especially during the holidays but compared to other resorts, our family finds the rooms at CCV small.

Other places: BLT for 1brs or larger. pros: 2ba in 1br, 3ba in 2br. Decent size rooms, easy to navigate resort building, parking is close to DVC building, walk to MK. Cons: Pool has the least amount of theming compared to other MK resorts. Edit: Studio layout different, you may or may not like it.

Do you have another upcoming stay? I would try to take a tour of any resort you are thinking of buying.

I will add that you need to factor how far in advance do you typically plan for vacations… and then consider availability at 11 and 7 ms…

Our answer was "both". We ended up with 200 pts at CCV and 210 at Poly for all the reasons mentioned above. CCV was first because we wanted the 2 bedroom option but wife and I have always loved Poly so that happened 2 years after CCV. Sorry, but I guess I'm no help! I'd say stay in a 1 bedroom at CCV and see if the additional space (and bedroom door) push you in that direction.

Copper Creek is a small DVC resort. It's hard to book consecutive nights unless you own there. At certain times of the year, it's almost impossible to even get a studio at the 11 month window. If this resort is important to you, buy there. I will warn you the studio rooms are small and a tight fit for a family of 4 or 5. The 11 month window is critical here.

Poly is larger resort with only studios (I mean there's the bungalows, but who can afford that?). It has a nice long-term contract and it's competitively priced right now on the resale market because of the looming Poly Tower.

If you can't book ahead 11 months, it doesn't matter which resort you choose.

We own both poly and CC. If you are only looking at studios, then Poly is a better option. CC studios are small… we go for a 1 bedroom when we stay there. Poly is also a bit of a wild card right now since no one knows if the Tower is going to be the same or a new association so I would only buy Poly if I was ok with staying in studios only.

Both are lovely resorts, but as others have mentioned, it has not yet been announced if Poly tower will be part of PVB, or a new resort, with restrictions, and thus, resale points bought at PVB won't be eligible to book there.

We are pretty sure, based on the design, that it will include 1 and 2 bedroom units...and possible Grand Villas...which current PVB doesn't have. However, the rest is unknown and until it is, IMO, one should assume resale points will not be valid there and then decide if you would be okay with that. Plenty have bought because for them, it doesn't matter. If you think that you will be disappointed to find out after purchasing that you can't stay there with your resale points, then it might be wise to hold off owning there until we do have an answer...but that could still be a year or so away.

CCV is a much smaller resort and plenty times of the year, studios are booked right at 11 months. Summer will be one of the easier times, so you might be fine booking right at 11 months. The other piece is both studios and 1 bedrooms, because they are smaller, only sleep 4 (not counting infant under 3) so if you have have more than that going with you, it is an automatic jump to a 2 bedroom unit. At least at Poly, you can do 5.

Good luck!

If you are planning for peak time studios, CCV is setting yourself up to fail. The balance of rooms makes studios tough. There’s just not very many and they go fast.

I don’t personally vibe with WL, because I live in the WL theme and it doesn’t make sense to my brain in Florida. The WL pool is lovely, but hard to argue with Poly, best transportation in DVC, maybe in any Disney hotel period.

Either are solid choices as sleep around points right now, IMO.

We do not :(
We just got back 4 weeks ago, so we don't have plans to return in the new future. Possibly my husband and I might take a quick trip down for a weekend to try and see some other resorts but thats not currently planned. Thanks for all the info--I'm worried about CC being smaller/harder to book, but I don't think its very hard to get a studio at the Poly so maybe I should do CC and hope I can still get in at Poly anyhow.

Go look up a lake view poly. Those go fast for a reason. They don’t cost much more and the view is stunning. Also right next to TTC, so you just take the big boat.

I was just in this same dilemma and went with Poly over CC because the theme at Wilderness Lodge just doesn’t do it for me, when taking the bus from Wilderness Lodge I felt like I was back home with all those trees haha. I love Poly though and there’s a small chance the resale points can be used at the new Poly tower so I just went with Poly. I was also just able to get a few days at CC for jersey week in November and hoping that I don’t love it more than Poly 😅

I considered CC when it was still in the final stages of being sold by DVD, but I do book studios exclusivley and the availability of them at CC is just not a fit for me as I don't necessarily book at the 11 month mark. I ended up with Poly resale and love it there. In all fairness my first poly stay ws in 1985 as a kid, so it's always been my favorite. I am certainly in the camp that hopes the new poly tower is part off the existing association, but if it is not, I will still get points at the new tower (and then decide if I want to keep my my existing contracts or sell them). Theme/location wise, both resorts are popular choices, but I agree with @RoseGold that the view is stunning and the transportation options are awesome. Good luck!

I’d go Poly:

1) You prefer studio access (Poly wins)
2) Unlikely rofr
3) Transportation options

Try to get rooms near TTC, and you will have direct access to 2 parks on monorail, plus lots of options to MK.

Also….This could change, but historically, Poly points have been the easiest to rent out if you need to dispense with some unused points.

Based on the opinion of my 10 and 8 yr old kids I would go with Poly. Poly is our home resort and they absolutely love the pool (slide). We stayed at CCV in February and they were disappointed with the pool and slide. I was told we need to go back to the Poly. WL was great and we love going for breakfast at Whispering Canyon. Whichever you choose though, you'll be sure to make some amazing memories.

We also looked at both resorts and decided to buy CCV for a few reasons - easier to get Poly at 7 months, we wanted the option for 1 and 2 beds, and the legacy point chart. If you want a studio during peak times at CCV, you need to own there. Good luck!

Another thing to consider: CCV studios are a lot smaller than Poly studios, but because almost half of the floor space in the Poly studios is taken up by the 2 bathrooms (another consideration) the bedroom space seems average.
