The following is from Mouseplanet:

"…When Stitch's Great Escape opens this fall, Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress closes for a much-needed rehab and facelift."

Anybody heard more on this? I thought they weren't going to invest any more money in the Carousel. This is great news if it is true. It gives me hope the the CoP isn't going away any time soon.

Whew! I just had a dyslexic moment and thought the thread was about PoC...

Pirates could probably use a rehab, but I selfishly didn't want it closed for my next visit :teeth:

Of course, I have yet to see CoP, so this will delay that even further...

Now you have me imagining a new ride, PoCoP (Pirates of the Carousel of Progress). Everybody sing alone now:

We pillage and plunder and rifle and loot
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho;
We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho!
There a Great big beautiful Tomorrow
Shining at the end of everyday
There a Great big beautiful Tomorrow
And Tomorrow is just a dream away!

Add in "It's a Small World After All", and you might have a memorable tune there :hyper:

I love CoP and hope that it stays for quite awhile. My daughter is seven and loves the ride also. She even sings the song, " It's a great big beautiful tomorrow..."

Pirates of the Carousel of Progress....Pirates of the Small World of Progress....What are the dates of the soft openings? I can't wait to ride :p

Yo ho, Yo Ho, a great, big, beautiful tomorrow for me...after all!pirate:

Oh the Michael Jackson Jokes could be endless. :jester:

If I were a betting man I would put my money on the COP rehab being a cover story for a permenant closure. I hate to be negative, just my view.

This thought had occurred to me. They have certainly used this technique before to try and quietly shut down an attraction. Basically this rumor could be either really good news or really bad news. Either we get a newly rehabed attraction or we lose the Carousel forever.

I was hoping they would leave the Carousel open though Christmas so I could see it again, but with Stich opening in October, this seems unlikely.

Oh, this will cause my Dad such great stress. EVERY time we go on it I have to hear the story about how he saw it at the World's Fair....
I bet it will close down for good. I think this is an excuse. Didn't they say that about 20, 000 Leagues? The big question is will they just let it rot or will they put something else there? I bet rot.

A couple weeks ago we were there and my youngest started screaming she had to go potty NOW! I think we were on the Valentine section? Can't remember, but I picked her up and went out thru the exit door. It lead me to the back and I had to follow a route, unlock a few chains, etc. (Nice graffiti back there by the way.)
Afterwards my Mom came out and told me the sound stopped, lights came on and then a voice said DO NOT LEAVE THE RIDE. Kinda a mute point since I had already left. She also said the doors made the loudest noise when I shut them. OPPS!
Funny though, she looked at my dad and asked what was going on. She didn't even realize I had got up and left and I was the cause of such a fuss.
If was either my little one pee in her pants and on the floor OR I leave. I think I made the right call?

If this is true its the death march for COP.

Oh no!:earseek: I was excited to hear that it was getting a rehab. But now I'm nervouse I may never see it again. I'm hoping for the rehab...

COP has never been "open" on any of our trips the last 3-4 years, so to us , it IS closed.
I really hope they do rehab it and open it full time. One of the great memories of our early trips to WDW.
But you know-- it dosen't spin wildly, go upside down, get you wet, or have loud music. It's a "dark" ride and just the kind of thing Disney seems to want to get rid of.

I hope that it is getting a rehab, because it really needs it. I saw it last year for the first time since '95 and it smelled musty and the seats and carpet were in bad shape.
Although, I have to admit that it's just the way they like to close rides.

I think it would be a shame to close down CoP. Not every attraction has to be a thrill ride. I'm one of those who saw this at the Worlds Fair as a child. My Mom took me and I remember it well. It's a ride my daughter enjoys when we go to visit the park...kinda provides a bit of continuity through the generations.

Also "Animatronics" really was what set Disney apart from all the rest...it was his "Bread and Butter" when it came to the Theme Parks.

"Mr. Lincoln"..."Hall of Presidents", PoC, Tiki, Small World, Splash Mountain the list goes on and on. These were things that fascinated people when they first came about. CoP is the Grand Daddy of 'em all. It would be a loss to put it out to pasture now.

Rehab it!!!
