Someone on this board had mentioned Coolmax socks a couple of years ago. I've bought them at Sears ever since and swear by them for preventing blisters. The only problem is, I haven't been able to find them at Sears this year. Has anyone seen the Coolmax socks at a reasonable price anywhere else? I don't want to spend $7.95 a pair ;)

Thanks!

I buy them at Target--I think about $7 got me several pairs--this was just last year, too. They had all the styles regular socks would have--ankle, above the ankle, etc. Men and women's styles.

I saw some socks at Target last night - $4.99 for two. They claimed to prevent sweating and odor and they felt really nice - microfiber. Hope that helps!

TJMaxx had them last year for $3.00 or so. Check there if you have one.

I don't know if everyone has a Costco in their local area, but I was flipping thru a "Passport to Savings" coupon booklet they recently sent me and they had the Coolmax socks at about $7 for a pack of three.

The coupon was going to be honored in August, so perfect for any fall trips...I'm thinking of grabbing a pack myself!

CoolMax is a fabric. A number of different companies use this fabric for a variety of applications, including socks, which is why you'll see a vast array of choices. Different designs and constructions provide different quality products, at different prices, of course. Thorlos and New Balance make the best socks from CoolMax fabric. They run about $8-$11 each.

While CoolMax is good, I prefer SmartWool. As a natural fabric, it keep feet dry, and it keeps them warm in the cold weather and cool in the hot weather. The best of the best are SmartWool Adrenalines. Great stuff.

I have purchased CoolMax socks from this website ....

http://www.longscycle.com/

It is biking gear - they tend to sell overstocks cheaply. Their shipping is quick - and I have never been disappointed with their product or service

I purchased socks for my DS and myself at JC Penney. They are addidas brand and they have the Cool Max on the back of the label. :flower:

You have got me interested. My hubby works road construction...on his feet for 10+ hours a day on HOT, fresh pavement. His feet STINK! And, I swear he has "trench foot" or "jungle rot." Would these socks help? Seriously, his feet are really gross!

The dryer feet stay, the better. However, CoolMax, itself won't make that much of a difference. The shoes themselves have an impact, as does the foot.

I've even purchased running socks at Wal-Mart with Cool Max fabric, so you can find them at varying prices. Smart Wool is a great sock maker, as was mentioned.

I got hooked on the thorlo socks. They are sooooo comfortable. I have walked a couple of marathons and swear by these socks. If I can't get to the mall I have bought Reebok and Nike socks at Bob's thinking they would suffice. I hate them. I got spoiled by the Thorlo's. The other socks always seem too wide once you wash them. It's great to know that I only have to look for the fabric. Does anyone think that the Thorlo's are as good as the socks that others have bought at Target or Walmart for a lot cheaper? I'm going to Hershey Park in less than two weeks and I have to stock up. I did find some socks at Old Navy that are pretty comfortable. I am now curious as to whether they have the coolmax in them. Thanks for your information.

I love Thorlo socks and the Wrightsock socks. They are so comfortable and really help prevent blisters. The Wrightsock ones have two layers so they slide in your shoes and not your feet. That's how they prevent blisters. I used to get blisters all the time and when I wear these I don't get any at all.

I get them here: http://www.sockcompany.com/index.html

I purchased 6 paid for 7.99 at target today and they did have them in several styles and many brands - some seemed a little thicker than others and after checking the fabric content they were all a little different - I chose the very low no show ones...

Size and thickness have some impact, but the most critical aspect of the value of socks is their construction. Many of the best socks out there have a cross-hatched webbing that seems to "hold the foot together" in a way that bargain tube socks don't. That seems to make a very big difference in terms of wear-and-tear on the foot, especially over long distances and/or rugged terrain.
