Cooling neck bandanas? Anyone tried them?

Leaving in ten days, very nervous about the heat...has anyone ever used those cooling bandanas that you wet and hang around your neck? Advantages, disadvantages, do they really keep you cool?

We used them when we went to sea world and six flags about 5 years ago. They were ok till your body got used to them and then they seemed like they were just heavy and had to be rolled over often to feel the cool. I felt like they were more of a burden than anything.

I like them. You can refresh them in the restroom and they do help a bit. I carried a ziplock bag to carry it in once I got sick of wearing it, since it's too wet to put in your backpack or purse. If you can get some ice to put in the ziplock with the bandana, you can refresh it really well.

Let's face it, nothing really works all that well, so we have to do what we can and go anyway!

I look like a complete nut, with my sunbrella, my cool bandana, my MistyMate and my frozen slushies! Who cares! I'm having fun!

I found them to be a hassle as well. The day I brought them out, we used them for about 30 minutes and ended up throwing them away. We got the cheap ones from Walmart and two of them leaked.

We would just use a washcloth from the room. Ask for ice water from a counter service restaurant. Dip the cloth in the ice water, wring it out well and stick on the back of your neck. It is an amazing difference and can make August a little more bearable. It is instant cold and you can use it all day. Take a ziploc bag for when you are not using it to keep your other things dry.
