hello, I have never thought about doing this, but I wanted to know if I can bring a small soft cooler on the plane? I just wanted to bring a couple of things for my room, and I know I cannot get them in Florida! no water, just some food?

thanks!

As far as I know, you should be able to do that. As long as the food isn't liquid or gel.
Ane the soft sided cooler fits carry on size guide lines.

I always bring a small soft sided cooler with us full of sandwiches etc. for the flights. As long as there are no liquids/gels and that you are within the limits of carry on luggage allowance there should not be a problem.

I have also taken full size coolers and checked them as luggage, just be mindful of the weight limits. We went to Texas a couple of years ago and were going to need a cooler upon arrival so I packed one full of all our beach towels, duct taped it closed and checked it.
I have also been in Oregon where I have seen people come home with coolers of salmon and crab on ice - always checked baggage.

ok, thinking of the soft sided, but how to keep it cold?

I was able to use a cooler for medication transport. I used the hard plastic ice packs that were frozen. That was fine.

While we were traveling, my son used all of his medication and we didn't need the cooler for the return home. I let the ice packs unfreeze.

When we went to get on the plane, they confiscated the unfrozen ice packs because they were now filled with water instead of ice.

My fault. I should have thought ahead. And they didn't care that it was a medical cooler. But, the frozen ice packs were fine.

Bring a zip lock bag and fill with ice after security.

What is it you are looking for here in Florida, maybe I can tell you where you will find it! I can't imagine what you wouldn't be able to get here, (except maybe NY or Chicago pizza or a decent hot dog)

I throw in a bag of frozen veggies
I have heard people say to freeze grapes and then you can eat them as a snack.
The gel packs are no-no's due to the gel
Ice packs don't work unless you get the ice after going through security
Frozen green beans work like a charm

I want to bring something from a local market here. They just have the best food in the world! so being I am staying in a studio, I just wanted to bring my sandwich stuff! I have shopped many years in Florida, and cannot find anything close to what I get here.
thanks thou!! lol

but what about the coolers with the built in gel?

Personally, I would not risk the gel inserts. TSA is unpredictable and it would suck to have to leave it along with your treats at the security station.

I have an LL Bean soft sided cooler -mine is a few years old but here is the same idea

Sandwich stuff? You mean cold cuts? Cold cuts don't last very long, especially in a small soft sided cooler.
PUBLIX carries Boars Head if you want decent lunch meat.

How long will you be here? Just hit subway or the deli at PUBLIX rocks as they make great subs there!
