Cooler Packing Strategies

How do you pack your soft-side cooler when you go to the parks...especially in the summer? Do you keep it in a locker, your car, or with you in your bag? Do you bring things like lunchmeat and cheese that are perishable? Do you worry about them spoiling in the heat?

How do you pack your soft-side cooler when you go to the parks...especially in the summer? Do you keep it in a locker, your car, or with you in your bag? Do you bring things like lunchmeat and cheese that are perishable? Do you worry about them spoiling in the heat?

We always keep it with us in a backpack. I don't really want to have to walk across the entire park to get to the lockers. We freeze water bottles the night before so they double as ice and cold refreshing water. We also bring the square tupperware containers so our sandwiches don't get smooshed. If it is turkey, I bring the mayo packets and don't put it on our sandwiches until they are ready to eat. By the time we are ready to eat lunch the water bottles still have plenty of ice in them and have been keeping the sandwiches nice and cold.
