Hi Gang, Just looking for some suggestions from all you veterans. What did you order or "retrieve" to pack in your cooler to take for a shore excursion lunch? We are booked on the Magic Oct 9th and am thinking ahead for our trip to Paradise Beach. What is available that would travel well? We are not big on eating cold chicken nuggets and such. Thanks for any ideas!

Heidi

Well there goes my idea...we packed a ziplock bag full of chicken fingers and ate them cold!!! they were yummy....

Others have had PB&J or other sandwiches packed.

For our trip to St. Thomas in 2002, we went to St. John for the day and ordered sandwiches that come w/ chips from room service. Also, cookies!!! YUM!:teeth:

Sorry MJ ;) But I can just hear my 5 yr old now going YUCK! He would turn up his nose at something being cold that he would normally eat hot. Just wondered what was available from room service in the way of cold sandwiches or salads that would be easily portable. You go on with the cold chicken fingers!!!:p

Hi KyBuckeye....
We will also be on the Oct 9th Magic and are planning on going to Paradise Beach. I figured we would just order food at the beach but I have heard of others ordering sandwiches from room service and packing them in their cooler. Bring along some ziplock bags in case they don't provide them.

Hope to see you on the 9th....it won't be long now (and I haven't even started thinking about what to pack!) The school system here has been considering taking away our fall break which is the week of the 9th to make up all the days missed during Charley but I figured we WILL be there no matter what....can't cancel now!

We packed chicken fingers, PBJ's, some fruit, chips & chocolate chip cookies.

If it is as warm as when we were there, just leave the chicken fingers out in the sun for a few hours, they should be plenty hot ;)

from my First Edition DCL Passporter book - here are some listings from room service:

appetizers: port of salad - iceberg lettuce, tomato, red onion, roasted corn, bacon, turkey blue cheese, herb croutons and pesto vinaigrette (that sounds YUM!); All Hands on Deck - special selection of international cheeses served with crackers

sandwiches: served with coleslaw and potato chips - tuna sandwich, roasted turkey sandwich

desserts: daily cake selection or extra large chocolate chip cookie

kids meals: Catch a Wave PB&J with chips

i only listed the cold selection items --

I know my DD grabbed a single-serve potato chip bag from somewhere once (maybe the hamburger stand)

We did this on the last cruise and it was great ... as long as you have the cooler and zip lock bags. Here are the things that traveled well:

PB&J for our DS5
Turkey Sandwiches
Potato chips that come with the sandwiches
Cheese platter (with grapes and crackers) were the BEST beach snack

we've done pretty much what ohmom listed....but I will add that we ordered "2 fruit bowls" because we thought it would be cut up little fruit salad bowls...nope....2 bowls of great fruit....it lasted us the rest of the cruise and we always had a healthy snack in the cabin!

That reminds me of the story of a post a while ago - where a young boy (old enough to stay alone for dinner) ordered service while dear parents ate in the dining room. He was obviously a growing boy and decided he was hungry for something like 10 chicken fingers.....so he ordered 10 chicken fingers. The problem is - that was 10 ORDERS OF CHICKEN FINGERS!!!!! Too funny!! Think of what that cabin must have looked like with all those plates of chicken fingers!!!!:earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

are the cookies nut-free? if not, can we order nut-free? DD has severe nut allergies but loves chocolate chip cookies.
thanks

Are there no problems with leaving the ship with food? On my Royal Caribbean cruise we couldn't even leave ship eating an apple. Is this a Royal Caribbean thing? Or maybe a Mexican thing (all ports were in Mexico)?

Tara,
I've read on these boards that the islands don't permit fruit (and similar) off board, and that DCL does not encourage you to take food off the ship. However, I also have the impression it is not heavily monitored.

I have been to Paradise Beach and they really expect you to buy food and drinks from them. I am not saying not to take a few snacks but they make their money on the food and drinks. It is free to get into Paradise Beach and it is free to use the chairs and umbrella's. I do know that they are going to start charging $5.oo pp to use the water trampoline, snorkeling stuff, kayacks, iceburg and mats. That will start October 1st. Here is a link about the new fee.

We ordered cookies, fruit, cheese platter, sandwiches the night before, placed in ziplocs and took with us. No problem at all and it tasted so good!

Mr. Sanchos Beach in Cozumel DID NOT not allow you to bring your own cooler or consume your own food or drink. I pulled out a bottled water from my bag and was politely told no outside food or drink to be consumed there.

We ordered some coronas and nachos and they were delicious!!!
