I was just looking at the DCL Web Site. It says that coolers packed with snacks are not allowed on board.

I'm confused! I know I've read threads where people suggest / have taken coolers on board. Is this a policy change?

I think what you are referring to is a soft sided cooler that people say to pack for excursions etc. I actually plan on using mine as a carryon with our cameras, bathing suits etc. They say you can order sandwiches from room service the night before and bring them with you, but don't forget the ziplock baggies, for sandwiches and ice.

Why order sandwiches when you can have a fabulous lunch at Cookie's BBG at Castaway Cay? They Have hamburgers, lobster burgers, hot dogs, chicken, ribs, etc.

The coolers are for stops at other ports when you want to go to the beach, or other places, for the day. It's cheaper than buying lunch at a restaurant or snack bar. Also, it's nice to take your own water bottles when going ashore.

I packed mine flat at the bottom of our suitcase.

I think they are referring to taking lunch on an at port day that you might not be coming back to the ship for. Such as, we had planned to go to Dawn Beach, shop, the finish the day at Great Bay beach without going back to the ship at St. Martin. It didn't work out this way since we were docked right at the pier and everything was so convenient.

Also, they are now selling a soft sided cooler that holds at least 6 waters/cans of pop/beer. I believe it was $15 for one with water or pop and $22 (?) for one with beer.

I postes this in another thread and didn't get a response on it.

It also says coolers containing personal items (eg soda or snacks) may not be brought on board, and that perishable items such as homemade, pre-cooked or other perishible items plus any open snack containers can not be brought on board.

So it's a little confusing, because I know many people have said they bring their favourite soft drinks on board with them as well. From the wording of their rules it looks like they only thought to restrict sodas if they're in coolers.

Well I did try to explain this better before, here's a link to the post on here that really tells a good all around answer.

Are soft sided coolers with wheels allowed?

And that rule in the docs is about as clear as mud. They have that rule there so they can say no to people trying to bring the igloo style hardside coolers that don't fit in the scanner.

And a small update of note: soda is now free onboard so you don't even have to bring that along anymore.

Unless, of course, you are picky about getting a particular kind of soda. i.e. Diet onboard is Diet Coke (I believe), Diet Pepsi drinkers or diet drinkers looking for a caffiene free option may want to lug their drinks onboard still.

O.K., I can understand the hard sided cooler not fitting through the scanner (and I wouldn't think of trying to fly to Florida with one of those!) I was thinking of a soft-sided collapsable cooler (that I have used as a carry-on on Delta).

So, can I or can I not bring my own bottled water on board? What about snacks for the stateroom (things like M&M's for the kids, maybe a bag of chips, bottle of wine, nuts, etc.)? Or is DCL taking the stance of other cruise lines - buy it on board at our outrageous prices or you're out of luck?

this is my problem with the concept of bringing tons of food on board. Snacks are one thing, but if you go to dinner in a restaurant, you don't bring your own food or drink. Why Should DCL now be responsible for all the garabage that they now have to dispose of. think if even half brought soda, beer, water, all in bottles or cans, who gets rid of this stuff. I can't imagine unless for medical reasons that people can't do with our their favorite brand for a week. Unless for medical problems, (diabetics are all I can think of), isn't there food open almost all the time? Isn't that the fun of cruising? Chowing down at all hours, ordering room service, my sis cracked up when we went on a 3 day Carnival cruise in January, we ordered room service every morning, and evry evening for that late snack!!

Well just my 2cents worth!

Being a lifetime Pepsi drinker, can to a point understand the want of a particular label item. Myself, I've had no problem putting up with Coke products for 3, 4 and 7 day cruises, don't think it'll be an issue with 10 either. But for those who cannot do without, yes the soda products onboard are limited to Coke.

You can pack your softsider with whatever you want, just as long as it's all in factory sealed containers. No deli coldcuts or fruit or the like. Wine you can carryon, no problem, as long as the bottle(s) are in an unlabeled container, no brand name wine carriers. You are limited about bringing it to dinner however, they have a 'corkage fee.

MarkRG...if you don't mind...what did you mean by...

I was thinking of bring a couple bottles of wine aboard with us from a local winery....but is there something I will need to do with the labels prior to binging them?? The wines I am thinking of getting are sold only in the winery itself..so it is a brand name...but not one that can be purchased at the local market or anything. Thanks.

Also, I believe it's a CDC regulation that you can't bring home-prepared food or opened snacks on the ship because they have such stingent rules about food safety. As long as its sealed I don't think there's a problem. After all, we had a small truckload of goodies in our suitcase for a post-DCL WDW trip and no one said a word to us.

I don't think they could say anything if you packed a soft-sided cooler flat, or packed it with film or cameras or anything. After all, you could just say it's a carry-on that happens to look like a cooler :smooth:

Doesn't help much when you can't have any of the Coke products. I still need to bring my own sodas and will do so for medical reasons. I also bring my own legal candy and snacks.

We take our cooler and a case of water every time we sail.

We use our largest suitcase for the softside cooler with wheels and the water, and whatever else we can fit in. Our room steward refills the ice every day.

You can't roll it on with the ice in. I would never bring extra snacks..way to much food available on board to waste precious suitcase space with food.

He means you have to have the bottles in an unlabeled container, in other words not a box from the winery. It looked odd at first glance to me, too! From what I understand, DCL is very liberal in allowing people to bring food (snacks, candy) and wine, beer, and soft drinks onboard. I think a lot of people piut their soft sided cooler in their checked luggage and carry a case of soda, or water, or bottles of wine in a standard carry on. I think it would be a hassle because you have to schlep it around till you can get in your room, but that is only me. As DCL allows it, I think it's great.

when we went in april, we brought a soft sided cooler, the ones with wheels on it, the guy gave us a pretty hard time when dropping off luggage, he said see the sign no coolers, i said it has my shoes in it, he finally took it,

We brought a cooler bag on board, packed it in our luggage, as a a family of 3 we did not need anything larger. I did order sandwiches, cookies, chips, etc.. from room service on both days we did excursions and it was perfect. We don't drink soda so I can't speak to that, but we did buy a 24 pack of water bottles when we were on KW and we came right on board with it no problems whatsoever. We also brought 2 bottles of wine with us but they were in our carry on bags and nobody blinked an eye.

We brought 24 bottles(Plastic) of water, 12 pack Diet Sprite and our favorite liquor transfered into a plastic 2-litre soda bottle in a suitcase. We also brought a case of canned beer packed in a soft-sided cooler, no ice.
I checked each with our luggage at the dock. Once in our room, I met our room host and explained to him our situation. I gave him a "fin" and he kept us in ice morning and night the entire cruise.
The year before I hand checked the beverages and as long as the coolers could make it into the x-ray machine there was no problem. The screeners even noted a "peculiar" image and I explained what it was and even offered to open the carry-on to show them. They said that it was O.K. after now "seeing" the x-ray image better due to my explanation and let me pass on through.
And if you can't carry-on enough of your favorite free beer, do invest in the souvenier refillable mug as you are frowned upon drinking on deck out of your free beer cans.
I also believe that customs will not allow you to bring home any opened/half empty containers. So any liquor that you purchase at any port must remain un-opened or must be disposed of:crazy2: :faint:  prior to arriving home.
Can you say Last night of cruise PARTY!!!!:cool1: :hyper: :thewave:

Tony M....so you brought opened/transfered liquor on ship? I was thinking if we brought any liquor onboard we would have to have new unopened containers....am I wrong?? Please set me straight....I'd rather pack what we have...than buy new bottles.

And as for the "beer mug" deal I found it was around $15 for the mug...but then how much are refills?

All these questions...I sound like a lush...really I'm not. A casual drink here or there is it....really.:teeth:
