We've planned a big trip with
me ::MinnieMo DH:smickey:

DSIS:hippie: DBIL :earsboy: DNiece8princess:

DSIS:cutie: DBIL:earsboy: DNephew9pirate: and DNephew6pirate:

We reserved 3 rooms at POP for our first night before transferring to BWV.

DSIS:hippie: had reserved a smoking room with a refrigerator for medical reasons. 3 days ago she received an email full of pixie dust.
:tinker: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

The email from Disney gave a number and code to call for a free upgrade to OKW or SSR. She called and was upgraded to a 1 bedroom. We tried to get 2 more upgrades for the rest of us, but had no luck.

I really hope DSIS:hippie: DBIL :earsboy: DNiece8princess: really like the 1 bdrm. I'd be on :cloud9:

It looks like someone told Disney of my plot :stir: to get someone else in the family to buy DVC.

Overall, I'm just looking forward to lots of :grouphug: :grouphug: quality family time.

Did the smoking plus refrigerator trigger the upgrade? Has anyone else gotten one of these? Just curious:surfweb:

That's great news! Congrats to your sister!

You know, I know it's not my business, but that combo really struck me as odd:
"A smoking room, plus a fridge for medical reasons." :headache:

Congrats!!

Just curious....when is your trip? I heard of those upgrades happening a lot last spring. It seems the values really fill up during Cheerleading and other sports events, and also Magic Music Days. I think since OKW and SSR tend to have more availability (and, possibly because they are cheaper) they get offered when the values are overbooked. I think a lot of people often get offered the 1 bdrm because they are the last rooms to book (because they cost more than studios).

Congrats, though....I think that's a pretty good upgrade!!

I wonder why they don't upgrade an owner who has a studio booked and then upgrade the POP reservation to a studio. They could just designate the 1BR upgrade on the info at the hotel, say to the person who made their reservation at 11 months out, and not notify them until check in - what a nice thing to happen to an owner. Of course these upgrades may be targeting people in the hopes of making a sale. After staying in a 1 BR who wouldn't want to buy. I guess I don't understand why they don't upgrade the values to moderates, the moderates to DVC or deluxe etc. Just reread the OP and maybe the fact that it is a 1 night ressie played into the equation also.

Hope your family has a great trip. We did one with 10 people last year and it was a good time for all. This year we are at only 8 but there is always the possibility that we'll end up with more before we are through.

castleri, ITA. It would be nice for the owners to have that happen. However, doesn't Disney own a block of rooms in each DVC resort that nonowners can make reservations for? Could be these value-to-DVC upgrades are coming out of that inventory. Otherwise, as owners, we'd have a big issue to bring up with DVC management!

OP, congrats to your DSIS on the upgrade! Hope she and her family enjoy it! Sounds to me like you're going to have to go over there to check it out.

You are right about the CRO inventory - just wasn't sure if that is by room or by points available so they can get a certain room size depending on what someone wants to book. That is probably the basis for this - using the units that they can't rent otherwise. I guess offering it to someone who has a moderate reservation and then moving the person from POP to the moderate is just too much paperwork etc. with possibilities of mistakes. I did see someone at BCV get an upgrade from studio to 1 BR while we were checking in and think that was a cash reservation not a DVC points ressie also.

Hello All!

I'm just now getting back to the thread. Sorry for the wait!
Thanks for everybody that said congrats!

I told DSIS how much a 1 bedroom rents for and I think she about fainted. She's had medical problems herself this year and the pixie dust is very welcome. I didn't tell her about the whirlpool tub, I'll let that be a surprise.

Maistre Gracy: Yes, my Bil is a diabetic, has a heart condition and smokes! Take it up with him! I have none of those problems.

Beca The SSR upgrade is for Saturday night April 14th! We are going to the Boardwalk for 5 days afterward. The SSR is especially sweet as the upgraded DSIS joined the trip late and will be in a preferred studio instead of in the Boardwalk view 2 bedroom villa for the rest of the week. (It kind of evens things out!)

Rinkwide I know what you mean. DSIS was eligible for a studio for the whole week. It made me want to cancel her room at the Boardwalk except I wouldn't be able to use those borrowed points this year so they would have just expired, so she might as well transfer over with the rest of us. P.S. I
always love your post!

Castleri I think on paper my DSIS is a good candidate for DVC ownership. They have gone to WDW a few times for conventions, have an 8 year old princess, and own their own business.

Sk8belle You better believe I'm going over there to check it out! I'm thinking we could have a cook out in the picnic pavillion while the kids play at the playground and swim. Will little kids prefer SSR to POP?

This will be my and DH's first trip to WDW since purchasing DVC. We are so happy to be able to share this with my family. We would have never been able to sponsor such a trip otherwise. DVC is priceless!

Depends on the age. Little kids tend to love POP and the ALL Stars because of the giant "stuff" and character pools. Go figure. It must be some sort of fantasy for them - maybe on par with the adult fantasy of a quiet, spacious resort with tasteful furnishings, fine dining and deluxe ameneties :lmao: My 8YO DD will stay say POP was her favorite until I chime in with my very anti-POP sentiments. After all, the POP does have day-glo rainbow bread and peanut butter/marshmallow sandwiches. :3dglasses

Congrats on the upgrade!
