Hello all. I'm a new DIS'er and have been hanging out in the DVC section. I just found this forum and LOVE IT!!!!! I'm 39 and will turn 40 in April. I've challenged myself to mark this "land-mark" birthday by running the Disney Marathon. I'm doing a 10k in Mobile, Alabama at the end of March. Any advice for what else to do between now and January? I'm specifically looking for advice on types of races and distances (10k's, 1/2 marathons, mini-triathalons, etc.). Thanks:yay:
 
I also turned 40 this year. I have set a goal for a 1/2 marathon in July. I started in January with barely being able to run 30 minutes. I'm taking it kind of slow in hopes of not getting injured. Tomorrow I'm going to try to run 45 minutes. This is hard work. I would also love to hear about some other races. I'm tempted to do one that's far enough away to make a vacation out of it.:)

At the top of the page WISH sub forums are listed. A lot of runners and marathoners hang out on the events/competitions board. They are a very passionate and dedicated group. Go there for a visit sometime soon.

Hey Ed! First, Welcome Home! You will LOVE DVC! :love: If you are new to running and marathoning, I definitely recommend the book "Marathoning for Mortals" by Bingham and Hadfield. It is available from Amazon for about $10. Many of the folks on these boards love Bingham's books and philosophies, so you will hear references to the "Penguin" now and again.

If you are just starting out on this side of WISH is a 2008 thread to discuss the Couch to 5k program.

If you have determined that you are indeed training for an event or wanting to train for an event, the WISH Events/Competition side of our WISH will connect you with several WISH Team members training for various events. There are all ability levels to be found and very friendly, welcoming folks.

We would welcome all new WISH Team members to start out on our weekly Walking/running thread to introduce yourself and get to know your WISH Team.

You can do this and you will have such a wonderful time as you get to know more people.
