I just wanted to share some great ideas about cooking in a studio while on vacation. I know this sounds crazy, but for 2 adults these are great ideas.

Must Have:
Electric Frying Pan
Waffle Iron for MICKEY Waffle's I always bring them when I stay @ DVC. It makes me feel special.

Breakfast
Eggs of any kind,
potatoes
bacon, sausage, ham
toast

Lunch & Dinner

You're on vacation, don't fret, reheat leftovers from dining out

Cocktails

When staying in a studio, go to the lounge at your DVC resort and ask the bartender for a couple of glasses. Just leave a buck or two and the server will be pleased. It makes the world of difference sitting on the veranda having a glass of wine. When staying in HHI, it may be better to bring your glassware from home and your favorite bottle opener.

Post any other meal ideas that may be suitable for vacation.

I think your ideas are great. thanks for sharing. I love the idea of getting real glasses from the bartender.

thanks for sharing~i'm glad not the only one who makes mickey waffles with the mickey waffle iron while on vacation! :cheer2:

I've heard here that you can ask housekeeping for wine glasses, since they do have them for the larger villas. I've not done it, so maybe it's not true. Anyone?

we did the split stay in Aug. found wine glasses in the cabinets in the kitchen of our one our villas. also at HHI on our way coming home, but not the way down, so I asked and was told that someone may have requested the items. good to know. so yes we may request the wine/cocktail glasses at the resorts at WDW and HHI but I'm not sure about VB. :flower3: i did once see the THV have the wine glasses also...but not sure if the glasses are always there.

Great, Keep the ideas coming.

Didn't know I could request amenities in my studio. Has anyone else done this in the past, and what did you request?

I know this is not free, but what I've done at HH is buy a wine glass (approx $8) from the Mercantile - the ones with the Mickey heads, and now I have a complete set. I love them and they always remind me of my HH porch, Broad Creek and watching the Marsh birds. I think I've probably got a dozen or so. At times, the store didn't have any, so not sure if they are always in stock. I've been going since 1997, so things change up a bit.

I also bring an extension cord for my laptop for the porch as some don't have outlets and laptop batteries just don't last.

I need to dig out my November TG packing list! See you there!

We did the same thing for the very first time last summer at HH. I had admired those mickey wine glasses for years and finally bought two for us to drink our wine out of while we were there. During the past year I found those glasses made my wine that much more enjoyable! This year we went to WDW and I had planned on buying more. I was so upset when I got there and realized that they had changed the design of the wine glasses. Not sure if you've seen them yet but they are bigger, only have a band of mickey heads going aroung the glass and the stem and base are black. I really didn't like them as much, so I didn't buy any more. Oh, well.

The iron in your room not only gets wrinkles out of your clothes.... it makes a tasty grilled cheese sandwich :)

We have a mini electric skillet and also a single burner hot plate. Brought down a small frying pan and small sauce pan. This past trip we made eggs, bacon, grilled cheeses, egg salad in our studio! Then we just store it in our owners locker! It was so nice to have something different from cereal and tuna! You could also do hot dogs, hamburgers, home fries, etc. Whatever! :thumbsup2

I'm impressed by those who actually cook in a studio! The most ambitious I'd get is coffee and toast. Or maybe cold cereal. Microwave popcorn is also on the list. I do love the wine glass idea though!

Since we drive (from S.C.) we have the luxury of a vehicle and space to bring a cooler and some other staples. In the cooler are frozen entrees which are leftovers from dinners at home made specifically for our Disney trip.

On our day of arrival, we make a quick trip to the Publix's and buy our perishables for the week (bread, fruit, cold cuts for lunches, snacks etc.)

Since we are dealing with some dietary restrictions we have to limit out dining out to usually only once or twice a trip so cooking in our studio is really a bonus for us.

I never thought about bringing a portable burner. I actually have one of those. Definitely going to pack that!

Is there a Publix near the resort?

I will also bring out Mickey Wine glasses too. We have stemless glasses that are etched with the "Wave" logo from the Contemporary. They are great for traveling, and I got them for $2.99 at the Fantasia Store a few months ago.

I would love to get some HHI merchandise. What kind do they have?

Keep the discussion going. This is too much fun. I just signed up, and I am hooked!!!!!

There are a couple in proximity to area; we go to the one at the intersection of 535 and 192 (about five miles from exit 68 on Interstate 4). There is a Goodies (food store) right at exit 68 (Interstate 4) but they have tourist prices for their fare.

Crockpot!!!!:stir:
And at VGC, you can call the CM's for a blender...
And I ALWAYS bring and extension cord for all the "electronica" devices...:surfweb:

Good luck!!!
:goodvibes

Have you ever had the Betty Crocker Warm Delights?? MMM-mmm good! I never buy them at home, but threw a bunch in the suitcase and sad to admit this...I looked forward to that dessert all day long! And then I filled my suitcase with souvenirs going home.

DH and I are staying in a value studio at AK this February and plan on doing a no parks trip. We are just going to get away from the cold of Pa. and just want to relax. We drive down, so I like the idea of the small electric frying pan. We can fit alot of things in the van, especially with only the two of us going. Thanks for the great ideas. We plan on some shopping, movies, relaxing in the room and resort and will be visiting some relatives who stay in Florida for a few months in the winter. They have never been to AKV so can't wait to show them the resort. I just hope I don't get the parking lot view with the value room, especially since I am trying to show off the resort.

And this is why I love my Owners Locker...you can fit a small electric griddle in there, or a waffle maker. As well as some nice cocktail glasses. I haven't packed that griddle yet, but it sure is a good idea. Now, I'll have to weed out the stuff I don't use all the time and bring the griddle with me and put it in the OL!!!!
