We have never been to hhi. We plan on stocking up and cooking breakfasts, lunches, snacks and a couple dinners. Any tips on what you all cook there?

Pud love to pack picnics for the pool or beach!

We cook alot at HHI, well I use the term "cook" loosely. But we do alot of in villa or rather "on balcony" eating at HHI. It's easier and less time consuming especially when so much beach, pool and water activities beckon the kids!!

We usually make a loose menu before we leave with a grocery list for our arrival day. We do easy dinner meals like tacos, BBQ chicken, fajitas, spaghetti and meatballs, etc. We do go out a few nights too.

We always have breakfast in the room. Anything from eggs and toast to cereal. We pack a bunch of snacks for the beach and pack our own sandwiches often too. A few days we buy lunch at the beach house so the kids can get their sand bucket and shovel! We do buy refillable mugs and use them often at HHI.

We bring a soft sided cooler from home with us to make transporting our sandwiches, waters and snacks easy to and from the beach.

We never cook dinner in the villa-I already have more restaurants I want to go to than nights of vacation. LOL
I do cereal and lunch stuff (cold cuts, rolls, chips, fruit) and at lunchtime I'll run back to the villa, make sandwiches and bring them to the pool and we eat there.
Oh! we have used the grills a couple of times in the last few years. Once was steak and the other time was burgers and dogs. I'd utilize the grills.

For the grills, do we need to provide our own charcoal?

I would love to know also about the grills....do they sell charcoal at the resort store...or have it there....

We are only there for 4 nights, but you never know with Dhubby he may be inspired to experience charcoal grilling...we have not done that for years....gas grill!!!!:thumbsup2

I want to say they do have charcoal at the store at HHI, but I'm not 100% sure. When we go to the grocery for our supplies, we pick up two of those small packages of charcoal that you just light the bag and it takes care of itself. It is very convenient.

At HH, I tend to make a big breakfast every morning and have sandwich stuff for lunch and then we go out most nights for supper. There are so many good places to eat that we usually eat out for supper.

Also, last time we were at HH, I bought the preportioned chocolate chip cookies at Publix - and baked 10-12 of those each night before bedtime for my family. You would have thought I'd prepared the finest dessert ever for them. They loved them and even the other day, my DS12 said to me "those cookies you made at HH were the best ever". In a way, I was a bit offended because I bake a lot from scratch at home and spend a lot more time and energy on treats for them at home. However, I guess because I don't go to the trouble on vacation to bake - they were pretty impressed with warm cookies at bedtime.

Yes you need to provide your own charcoal. Not sure if they have it in the resort store. However the Piggly Wiggly is in the shopping center right next door. There is also a Wal-Mart on the island.

We were there for 6 nights last year and 6 nights this August. We went out 4 of 6 nights. Our favorite is Skull Creek Boat house. We had 4 families in the 2 bedroom and had way too much food. Everyone bought chips, for breakfast we had cereal, fruit, muffins. For lunch some bought by the pool or beach and sometimes we had sandwiches etc. We grilled out 2 and was very good.

We rarely cook there because there are so many great restaraunts. But I do have one tip from my experience a rare time I cooked. There's supposed to be an oven mitt there, I think. Well, make sure it's there, or you have one BEFORE you cook, not when the stuff is good and hot in the oven, ready to come out. Trust me, that's a bad time to discover there isn't one.

Thanks! We will be there soon! So excited!
So far I want to try kingfisher, sea shack, salty dog, pizza, parrot cove because we have gift cert.

Do any of those take reservations? Any others we should add?

Can you see fireworks from resort?

I do remember seeing charcoal at the resort store. Not sure how much it was.

We like to do the same as others. Sleep in a bit, breakfast in the room, lunch packed for the pool or beach, and then a dinner out since there are such great places to eat on HHI. Skull Creek is our fav too.

Yes, you have to provide your own charcoal. They sell a small bag you that you light and heat. It is expensive around $5. You'd be better off buying those all-in-one bags at another store.

We usually grill one night and grill enough hamburgers/chicken/etc to make chicken salad sandwiches and stuff for lunch. We also get fresh shrimp at least one night to have for dinner.
