Can anyone tell me about this? I see kids there all the time and Inever have kids with me. This time my grand kids ages 5 1/2 and 3 will be with us. Does it cost? Do you need reservations? Do they do it everyday? Anything you can tell me would be so greatly appreciated. :-)

Its free, and the kids get a couple cookies when they are done. You'll want to show up about 15 min early, a little more if its a very busy day. The times will be posted on a sign in that area. Its a lot of fun!

PS- they dont eat the actual cookies the kids make. They have a "magic" oven that brings out fresh warm (safe) cookies.

FYI sometimes they put on an "age limit". Usually it is 5 and above. But it all depends on who is woking that day...

Unfortunately we had a terrible experience with this last year. My dd is 3 years old. We showed up for the first session of the morning, I walked up with dd and they said they were full. So we came back for the 2nd session, about 20 minutes early, I wanted dd to be one of the first people in line. So we stood there for about 20 minutes, we were about 3rd in line and more kids kept showing up. The CM's that were setting up were talking to the kids and interacting with them while setting up. So it came time to start handing out chef's hats. She started handing them out and skipped right over dd, intentionally. I was kind of speechless so one of the other moms said, "what about that little girl". The CM said "oh she's too little", never even acknowledging me or my dd. I walked up to the CM who said this and explained that we had been waiting for 20 minutes along with a few other kids, she had interacted with my dd, it was obvious that we were standing there in line to do the cookie thing and at no time did she ever say "your dd is probably to little/young for this event". Her response was oh sorry, you should have known or something along those lines. I was livid, not only is the age requirement not posted but she could have told us this while we waited. So we left, very upset that we had wasted all that time waiting in line. The worst part was we walked past there later in the day and there were kids doing it who were smaller than my dd. My dd was so disappointed that she didn't get to participate and wear the chef's hat. I was very surprised by the CM's attitude and behavior.

If you kids are around 3 years old make sure you talk to the CM when you arrive to make sure they can participate so you don't end up wasting 30 minutes standing in line for something your kids won't do.

If you head down mainstreet, toward the castle, its to the right. Just past refreshment corner. Before you go around the corner in to Adventure land. I can't remember what the building is called. Its had not had anything in the building for years. There is a DVC cart and pin cart parked out front. Its held on the front porch area of the building.

I think Linda mis-typed. It's actually on the left, at the Plaza Pavillion.

Doh! yes, that would be on the "other" left side. LOL

We can't wait for DS1 to do this! It's awesome and I love the fact they send the child off with warm "safe" yummy cookies!

Wow, I'm so sorry this happened to you. Totally wrong there. I actually hadn't heard of this either, we'll definitely try it out. However, since WHEN have they decided how old a child is without asking? My 2 1/2 year old is 34 lbs and 39 inches, and going through yet another growth spurt. At 2, it wouldn't have been a good activity for her, but even now, she's into cooking with us. I would have NO problem letting her do this now and I will see to it that she does it at her 3rd birthday trip. I'm the parent, I'll make those decisions. Thanks for the heads up, if nothing else I'll ensure they're broken in for other parents and kids this age.

The minimum age is 4. My son was 2 weeks away from being 4, and helps me in the kitchen all the time. They asked us if he was 4 and we said yes. We thought his older brother was going to say for sure he was only 3, but he kept his mouth closed.

I agree though that it depends on the CM.

I'm just so surprised by this. So they can decorate a cookie at the princess faire, they can do it by that petting zoo area where they have Woody and Jessie come out, and they can decorate cakes for the birthday party - what makes this so different? They're not actually handling the ovens surely.

My guess, the difference is two fold- one, cookie decorating is a "pay" event. They dont give you the cookie and frosting, you buy it- they'll take anyones money! And cookie decorating is a parent supervised activity. Cookie baking requires your child to work with a group of children and a 2 or 3 cm's. They can't have small children that need a lot of extra help.

we did this! our youngest (4 at the time) loved it! our oldest (7) thought it was "ok". it's really cute! each had a "job"...pouring the flour, cracking the eggs, pouring the chips, etc. and they do a cute little dance...sing some songs...and whoa-la! the cookies are baked! when we went, there weren't that many people. we were there around 11:30 or so, i think. anyways, the cms interact w/the kids prior & write their names on the chef's hats, etc. really cute! and they get to keep the hat at the end, and our DSs were wearing it all day...got some nice comments from other guest & cms along the way! :flower:

OK, I am going to let my son know he is going to make us some goodies!

Ah - so are the parents not allowed in to help/watch in the cookie baking?

Parents can watch and take pictures... From the patio...

Okay, I see. This would not be good for us then. We'll just decorate until later! Thanks for the clarification.
