Booked a short Christmas trip Dec 21-24 with DH and 2 DD. Should we splurge and stay on Disney property? Paradise Pier is not a tremendous amount more than our rate at The Desert Inn. Should I really buy up and stay at GC? :confused3

Imagine waking up in the morning and just going downstairs to have a character breakfast, then just walking a few more metres and being in DCA.

Yes! Yes you should. :)

An extra MM would be nice given that it will be crowded. DI is really close. GCH may be a lot more.

Most people seem to make their choices thru their wallet. I would do GCH if you have the resources,

It all depends on the pros and cons for you(:

We (my DBF and I along with a few friends) are going in Deccember as well and had the same debate. But we decided we would save the money from the hotel so we can splurge on Christmas shopping. This was a bigger pro than staying on site because we plan on spending little time in our room and maximum time in the park! :D We are also staying at the Desert Inn and we really like the hotel. And even though you aren't staying onsite in the hotels you can still check out their wonderful christmas decorations and whatnot(: Hope that helped at all

I think any of the property hotels are the BEST! NO one will ever convince me that staying across the street in "closer" then staying on site. Downtown DISNEY is DISNEY!!!! LOVE walking DTD, LOVE waking up and being there, love character walking through the hotels...LOVE IT ALL!!!! It is worth ever penny!!!

Really??? The Desert Inn and Suites? I've stayed there, and will be there again in December. I like it because it's pretty cheap. So, I'm pretty surprised that it would be close in price to Paradise Pier. If you can swing it, I'd say definitely stay at a Disney hotel.

If you do the PPH, try to get a WOC view (you can request it at checkin, but will take your chances) if you can

I have to agree with Dee - I love the DI&S - primarily because of its location and price. However, I know their holiday prices are high (which is why we're staying at Quality Inn next trip). DI&S is fine, but given the choice, I would choose PPH instead (all prices being equal). I doubt I'll ever stay at GCH because I'm just not able to spend that much on a hotel room (and still be able to go as often as I do).

I had the same thought because we just returned from a 7 night stay at the end of Oct. and we paid $585 for 7 nights! Two nights at $89 and the rest at $59. Maybe they know about a discount I don't but I've never seen PPI for less than even double of the $59 rate :confused3

As a previous poster also said, it comes down to personal preference. We also prefer to use our money on souvenirs that we can take home since we aren't in the room for anything more than sleeping and showering. The convenience and savings outweighs staying on-site for our family, but may not for yours.

Good luck with your decision. Either way, you will be in Disneyland!!!
