There will be two adults and one preteen child. We intend on spending a few days on LA(drive beach coast one day, etc) then Disneyland(Maybe Knotts along the way). Then San Diego(Zoo, etc). What would experienced LA folks and past vactioners suggest. I have never driven a convertible but sounds like it would add fun to the vacation. Looking for all opinions-Thanks in advance.

Go with the convertible!!! :cool1: Just remember, lots of sunscreen. I've gotten a major sunburn in traffic before! The only consideration I can think of is luggage room. The trunk of the convertible may be smaller.

We hired a convertible for one day to go from Anaheim to LA.

It was fun BUT:
- Not a lot of luggage room (so it wouldn't have worked for the whole trip)
- Back seat was quite claustrophobic and with the top up, our youngest got VERY car sick (I'll spare you the details)

Pack light! We did about 5 trips with convertible rentals, and no matter which make of car, there's almost no room in the trunk, esp. if your other choice of car is a full-sized vehicle.

My husband just recently sold his convertible. Although driving with the top down in the sunshine was nice, my long and, at times, shoulder length hair would constantly whip into my face. I'd even would wear a baseball cap and my hair pulled back in a pony tail. Not only did it still whip my face, I also had to worry about losing the cap in the wind. That kind of took a lot of the fun out of it for me.

Unless you're driving a newer Mercedes with a wind screen, expect to experience the same hair whipping unless you have a very short hair cut.
