We are going to DL this week, and I have purchased 2 day parkhoppers for my kids and the 3 day Southern Cal. pass for my husband and myself. In the past, I was able to easily convert a one day parkhopper to the So. Cal. AP the day that I entered using the parkhopper. I want to do that this time as well, and convert all the different tickets to the cheap So. Cal. AP on our second day and pay the difference. All the tickets I bought cost less than the cheapest AP. Someone recently told me you have to convert the ticket on the first day or you can't convert it to an AP?? I cannot find any confirmation of that. Does anyone know? Thank you. We are going during AP blackout days which is why I bought the parkhoppers in the first place.

You can upgrade while the ticket is still valid. So no, you don't have to do it on the first day. Was there any context to that statement when you read/heard it?

Just make sure you don't plan on going during any blockout days *after* you upgrade the tickets.

You can convert a Parkhopper to a AP at any time. They just prorate the value of your parkhopper. We converted ours on the last day they were good. But its looks like that wouldnt do you any good unless you are buying the unlimited passes since you are going on blackout days? Maybe I am missing something.

No, they don't prorate anything. You can use your park hoppers for ALL days and then upgrade on your last day and you'll be fine. You get credit for the price you paid for your tickets towards your AP. You will not lose any value from your hoppers, if you pay $99 for them (just a random number because I don't know what you did pay) you will get $99 credit when you upgrade, no matter if you do it on your first day of use or your last day of use. Also, if you upgrade ON your blackout day you have full park priveledges and do not have to pay extra for a blackout pass. So, if you go on a Saturday and it's blacked out, you get in with your hoppers, you go to the bank right then and upgrade and you have in and out and hopping priveledges that day. Of course, as Bumber said you do want to make sure you upgrade on the last day of use or the last blackout day your AP would have. :)

But to upgrade, you HAVE to do it while the park hopper is still active?

In other words, dd had a 3 day parkhopper from April and we are doing an impromptu trip again in 4 weeks. I still have the tickets, although they are used, so just to be clear I cannot upgrade those to APs?

That's true. In order to upgrade, the ticket you are upgrading must be valid. If you can get into the park that day with the ticket, you can upgrade it.

Right, they have to be active. So no, you cannot upgrade your hoppers from April. But you could upgrade your new hoppers from your next trip and they will be good for 1 year. If you might do more trips within 12 months it's worth it to upgrade.

If you can get into the park that day with the ticket, you can upgrade it.

That's a good way to say it.

Now it's different at WDW, where you can upgrade a ticket, even an all used up ticket, if it's within 14 days of first use. Not at DLR, though, not without a special exception with special reasons (like hospitalization after an emergency on the day you were going to upgrade).
