Have just been into my booking on Continental's website and have been given options of upgrading to Business First.

Anyone know why on the way out it would cost £1068 each, but on the way back would cost only £248 each?

Out of our league at the moment but for £248 each way I'd heavily consider it! Just wondering why the outbound would be so much more than the inbound :confused3 Same amount of seats available for both.

May wait and see what's on offer at the airport :)

We've always paid more for upgrades coming back from Orlando. Not sure why. Just checked upgrade prices for our flights the other night on VA and it is more than double to upgrade on the way back. Pity, because that is the flight I want the additional luggage allowance and it is a night flight so it would be nice to lie down.

Continental business has outstanding reviews by the way. Your option looks great as even just on the way back you could bring all that extra stuff back from your quick whizz in NY ....!

I am seriously considering it! BF does NOT like flying at all, and I think he'd maybe enjoy it a bit more. Plus, I never even though about the fact that our flight home is a night flight and I can never sleep on planes so it'd be great to have a lie down and hopefully get some sleep! Will definitely be keeping an eye on them and if we have the cash spare we'll go for it.

I always prefer the better upgrade on the return because of the night flight and the fact that you don't have the extra luggage allowance.

If I could only do one it would be the return for that reason. Ours is looking better priced the other way round though - not really what I had in mind so I will hold on. Speak to your BF. :thumbsup2

Continental Business is awesome - we were upgraded for free for one leg of our two part flight home one year - even better I was heavily pregnant it was sooooooooo much more comfortable.

Man I wish we'd get upgraded for free!! LOL

We're both agreed it looks awesome but we're gonna have to wait and see if we want to sacrifice £500 that could be used on spends! I really want to though, lol :goodvibes

ijust checked for our flight and it says $450 each + 20000 miles, however it says that our names would go on a waiting list. I assume that they wouldnt take the money unless the fseats became available??/ does anyone know for def???

They can't charge you for the upgrade unless you actually take it. If you are worried you could always email them then you have the written confirmation to fall back on in the very unlikely event of a dispute. Just make sure if you join the waiting list that you are certain you want to take it should the seats become available. I don't know if there is a penalty for cancelling an upgrade. Anyone? :confused3

Continental are wierd here.

They will take your money and your miles at the time of requesting the upgrade (you do have 20,000 miles per seat dont you)

Then you go into the waiting list. They hold onto your money until you board. In the meantime they continue to try and sell out the cabin to full paying passengers. When you arrive at the airport you will check in and get your economy boarding pass. When you get to the gate, they will know how many seats they have left unsold in business and if you are high enough up the waiting list, you get upgraded. If they cant upgrade you at this time, then they refund your payment and miles 2 to 3 weeks later, with no interest or anything.

Also, upgrades via the waiting list are time sensitive, thus the longer you are on it, the more chance you get. So to give you a better chance you need to request the upgrade as soon as you book and give them your money!

All a wee touch unfair IMHO.
