Contemprary or Wilderness Lodge

Which resort should we stay at?

  • POR-it is the cheapest, and we know we like it

  • Wilderness Lodge-it would be a new experience

  • Contemporary-we would be on the monorail

  • Other ideas?

We were at Disney World last week, and bookd the bounceback offer they had in room. Right now our reservation is for POR, at $129.94 a night. Which is a great rate!

Our family got to thinking about changing to a different resort, and the Wilderness Lodge was mentioned. So my TA gave me a quote, and it is $232.31 a night. A little more than I expected, but the standard view is not available, only woods view, which is a little more. About $25 a night more.

Well, I started messing around with the figures, and a standard garden view at the Contemporary should be around $248.06 a night. If it is available. And being on the monorail would be sooo nice!

Here is the thing: We have stayed at POR before, and loved it. But only my nephew really remembers it. His sisters don't. We have stayed at the Contemporary before, and love love it! We have never stayed at the Wilderness Lodge before. So now we don't know what to do! What do you guys think?

We've never stayed at the CR, but we LOVE the WL :goodvibes. We are booked for our third stay at the WL in December :santa:. It's a fabulous resort with great theming, IMO :dance3:.

That depends on your family. We have only stayed at the WL and LOVE it. We are not interested in staying anywhere else. Others are trying to stay at every resort. Some people do split stays between 2 different resorts every trip. We spend every afternoon in our taking a break before heading out to the parks again and want a quieter location w/ more room than a value resort offers. We also don't use the pool so that isn't important to us. We do enjoy the boat ride to and from MK and we can catch the monorail from their. Is there somewhere else you could use the money you save on a room for your vacation? An extra Disney splurge? You need to find out what is really important to your family to get the answer that you need.

Yeah, food.;)

I didn't even put my option number 4 on here, because it is naughty, and I am trying to be good. The Poly for 314.21 a night. But then we would not be doing any character meals, we would be doing almost all counter service, which I'm not sure would be much fun for us.

But the Poly---ooooh, it might be worth only eating pb&j in the room to stay there again!

We've stayed at Cont. a few times and I'll be honest, the monorail is VERY CONVENIENT:goodvibes , but the environment and decor is only OK

But the WL is awesome in every way Cont isn't. It can be a little tedious getting on the boat, but it's totally worth it, and the added plus, it's cheaper.

WL - very pretty I just never felt like I was in Florida and after all winter the last thing I wanted was more winter. If that makes sense. Transportation was not that hot either.

POR - looks very nice but I prefer hotels housed in one building

CR - We are trying this for the first time this year. New redone rooms look great and you cant beat the location or transportation.

My only other pick might be the GF just to try it out once.

It would be easier in terms of transportation to stay at the Contemporary because of the monorail. However, the Wilderness Lodge has a lot more personality and better theming IMHO. I think you should pick from those factors. :)

Besides the Contemporary having the Monorail, another transportation factor is that they are the 1st stop on the buses when being picked up at the Resort and being dropped off. Even though they usually share bus service with the Polynesian and Grand Floridian, the odd time in the morning they might share bus service with the Wilderness Lodge and in those times the Contemporary was the 1st stop and the Wilderness Lodge was the 2nd stop. So you will have a better chance of getting seats incase the bus might be full.

In your situation I would stay with the POR. If money is not an issue then try the WL. The pool is better for kids at POR.
