Just returned from two wonderful weeks at the Contemporary. We loved everything! If there are any questions, feel free to ask.

CalifoniaDreaming, Thanks for replying. When we checked in May 31st, it was around 6:00pm, and we got soooooooo lucky. We must have had the nicest desk clerk. Well, my husband had wanted 1st floor since these are the only rooms in the wings that have balconies. So she looked it up and said that she had a 1st floor parking lot view, which didn't excite us too much. She kept looking and then offered us a room with a king size bed ( don't remember what floor or view) or a room on the third floor water view. So I explained to my husband that even though it was 3rd floor, that we could still open the sliding door. Well, we decided to take the water view and had the most beautiful view. We could see the island with all of the birds on it, and had a perfect view at night of the water parade. We also enjoyed watching the boats. The only down side is that of course it is way in the back, so we had farther to walk than most, but we didn't mind at all. Once again the view was worth it for us. We were in room 8313.

When you say it has a sliding glass door and can be opened, exactly what does that mean. I have read that before and don't understand:confused: ! Seems one would fall out:eek: We are trying to decide between top floor or first floor also! This will help me decide. Thanks :) ! Glad you had a great time and nice CM's!

Thanks for the reply! Sounds like you had a great room! I have been thinking about trying the wing sometime (I've stayed at the CR once, in the tower).

:)

 Welcome home! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your stay.
The water view sounds wonderful. Did you eat at the Concourse Steakhouse during your stay? We will be there in 8 days and my husband wants to try the Concourse Steakhouse.

Bibbi, I know that this sounds confusing, I sorry. There is a sliding glass door just like on a house, but when you open it there is only a wooden fence. There isn't a balcony on the 2nd and 3rd floors. I hope that this helps.

Dancemom, We ate at the Concourse one morning for breakfast. It was just ok. My husband thought his was good, but mine was cold. Not one of my favorite meals. We never did go there for dinner, so I cannot help you there, but we did go to the California Grille twice, which was wonderful. I have a really really long post on the restaurant forums if you would like to read about all our eating extravaganza.:D

CaliforniaDreaming, I would love to stay in the towers, but we had such a great room rate and a great room view that I cannot complain. We stayed through Shades of Green which is the hotel leased to the military. There is no way that we could have stayed at the Contemporary for two weeks and paid regular prices. We got very lucky because we had always wanted to stay at the Contemporary.

Welcome back! I'm going to the Contemporary in August. How long was your walk to the tower?

Thanks Tina, it is amazing how many times I have been by that place and never paid it much attention!:o I guess we focus on the towers! Anyone have a picture of these 3rd floor sliding glass doors from the inside or outside?

Dear TinaS,
We will be staying at the CR in August. Do know where the non-SOG guest rooms in the north wing are? We requested north wing but are not part of the SOG program. Just curious about the location and thought you may know something since you just got back. Thanks. Nancy

According to a post some time ago by SoG employee FirstNo, the rooms which SoG doesn't have are mostly first floor non-water view rooms.

I am not exactly sure, but I think that the SOG guest are taking up most of the north wing. I figure that the SOG had about 300 rooms and that is about how many rooms are in the north wing. It would make since if the Contemporary saved the 1st floor water view rooms for non-SOG guest.

SoG charges $10/night extra for the 1st floor water view rooms. :)

Groovymickey, We were probally one of the fartherest rooms from the main building and even when we walked really slow it only took us 5 minutes. Now, we do not have any children so you may have to take that into consideration.

CalifoniaDreaming, I had read about the extra charge. SOG had started charging an extra $10 for pool view. So when they relocated to the Contemporary I guess they are charging the $10 to only 1st floor, water views.
