Contemporary Resort Upgrade

We had called up on Friday night to see if we could get one of the newly remodeled rooms. It appears they haven't finished any yet in the tower. So we drove over to the contemporary early around 9am. We figured the room would not be ready and we would store our luggage for the day. To our surprise we were upgraded to 12th floor concierge level. Our room was on the side of the magic kingdom. The room was 2nd from the end which means a perfect view of the firworks for the whole stay including the 4th of July!!!! Anyone else get any free upgrades???

I stayed in that room 2 years ago for the 4th. It was not an upgrade, but they did have codes at that time and used the code. We felt very lucky, but you really lucked up!

Were your original ressies for the tower or a wing room? I think they offer the "free uprades" to guests on their first stay to give them a "taste" to convince them to book the more expensive rooms for their future visits. When we stayed there a couple years ago for the first time, we booked a SVGW room and we were upgraded to a tower room without even ASKING!! Our second stay there this April. we again booked a SVGW. We were "upgraded" to a WVGW room. When I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades to the tower, we were told we could pay the RACK RATE for the tower if we wanted to stay there and that we were already given an upgrade to a water view. So, I was slightly annoyed to find out that they were not even at 50% occupancy and woudn't even offer me the Florida resiident rate to move up to the tower. I know, I didn't request or pay for it when we booked, but when you hear about guests getting free upgrades to CL, it makes one wonder what makes them offer the "complimentary upgrades" the way they do.

i always love hearing about people getting upgraded. i can't think of a better way to start your WDW vacation. it always puts you in a great mood.

that makes total sense. once you experience a higher level of room, it makes it that much harder to go back to the standard garden views.
