Hello Everyone, my sister is coming home for the first time since leaving for college, the weekend she is home is also her birthday. We booked a weekend stay at the Contemporary so that we could celebrate with her. We are booked for one of the garden wings. I have read on other websites that the garden wings are not as nice because they are being renovated. Does anyone know what the status of the renovations is? I'm just a little worried that we are spending all this money and the room is not going to be very nice. Any thoughts on this?

Thank you :earsboy:

I've stayed in the Garden Wings several times, and they are a bit dated. Maybe that's why they're being renovated. They are also a L-O-N-G walk from anywhere, especially if you're out close to the end.

That said, the convenience of being at the Contemporary with the monorail makes it worth the walk.

I hate to disappoint you but we have heard and read that bugs are a real problem at the CR.

I decided to change to a different resort for our Dec. trip because of the fear of getting an old room. I want to relax and the garden wing rooms are just too busy for me. I will stay there again when they are finished updating.

I have the same question. I've booked a tower room for Jan., but I've read so many negative reviews recently that I'm wondering if I should change my reservation.

***The bugs that I've read about have been outside.

tripadvisor.com gives sometimes the latest greatest experiences....

We love the CR and have stayed there many times...at least 1/2 of the south wing rennovations will be completed by the end of October (not sure when your trip is planned)...even if you do not get a rennovated room they are still quite nice (some people do not care for the modern decor and bright colors but we like them a lot). You could always request a rennovated room.

As far as bugs go.... a couple of people have reported recent experiences with bugs outside....the FL love bugs I believe....they travel in swarms and when they come they come....they are not inside the rooms or resort....just on the walkways outside....and it is not just the CR....other resorts are innundated as well....welcome to FL in the fall!!

We are leaving 3 weeks from today for a week at the CR....we will be in the tower so I am not expecting a rennovate room this trip, but really don't mind....the old decor is...well....contemporary!!

The location is awesome...walk to the MK, perfect monorail access, easy boat ride to WL and Ft Wilderness etc. The best arcades and marina on property and great restaurants and shopping. I think you made a great choice and your sister will love it

We stayed at the CR twice this past summer, both times in the North garden Wing. We had a great time, rooms were clean and the staff was friendly, we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

I have only heard reports about the bugs at the CR. It kept me from booking there.

Stayed in the North Garden Wing once - ground floor facing the interior (ie toward CR pool complex and bay lake in the distance) - room was in good shape - the bathroom was a little tired. Room was clean, good value for money paid and quite large

Stay was in late 2003

Enjoy

This is the FIRST I've ever heard about bugs...

Now my sister just got back on the 5th. She was upgraded - complimentary - to a tower room. Was not a renovated room, but she said very clean and cleaning people came every day, etc.

Heard where??? First I've ever heard of anybody mentioning bugs???

I got the information from this review. It scared me so bad that I didn't book the resort just because of it. It looks like they have taken off the information about the bugs but a lot of readers of this site listed a ton of problems. I am glad to hear that it didn't affect a lot of you.

Have any tower rooms been renovated or just the garden wings? We're staying 10/12-14 (our first time there) before going home to SSR for a week! What, if anything, should we request at check-in? We have a 3 month old - is the monorail loud on lower floors?

We just returned from an 8 night trip -- had booked a standard room but got upgraded to a garden view. We were in the North Garden Wing (not yet renovated) and LOVED the room! It was very clean and in very good shape (in fact my husband thought that it had been renovated!) and we could see the fireworks at the MK from our patio. It was a 10 minute walk to the MK, and about a 6 minute walk to the tower, but all but 50 feet or so is inside so you can stay cool if it is hot outside.

Our last visit was in Jan and we stayed at the Polynesian (garden view) and everyone like the CR much better.

Have fun!!!

Just got back on Saturday. We stayed in South Wing.... Everything was OK. My biggest complaint were the bugs. They come out at night and it is impossible to swim after 8 pm.... They were attracted to anything bright and white... They were NOT in our rooms just in the walkway to the main building and by the pool... Very annoying.

We've stayed at the CR many times and never had any problem with bugs.

We've seen the bugs outside at the All Stars, too, and not inside at either place. It's not just the CR. It's a Florida thing. You just have to deal with it.

Exactly. I don't want to insult anyone's intelligence, but it's quite impossible for bugs to choose JUST the Contemporary as their new home. I've stayed at the Polynesian, GF, CB and Riverside recently and have had bug problems at all of them.
