How is the contemporary resort for young children? We're mainly staying there for the location and are hoping to walk over to Magic Kingdom?

Well, all the families I've seen there sure do look happy!! I really don't think any one resort is 'better' for kids than another. They are all just fine for children.
Walking to MK is very easy...out the door, walk past the parking lots, cross the street (be sure to use the crossing signals, it's a fairly busy street), and over to MK. Takes under 10 mins.
Can't wait to get there myself...in 2 days!!!

Their Standard Rooms are among the biggest of the Deluxe Resorts, their Arcade is very nice, Chef Mickey's is right there, Resort Monorail access and walkway to the Magic Kingdom. All those things make staying at the Contemporary great with young kids.

We stayed there for my son's first trip to Disney -- on his 5th birthday -- and it remains his favorite resort. Seeing the monorail go right through the hotel is big stuff to little kids, and he also just enjoyed all the activity from the shops & arcade & restaurants. We had dinner at Chef Mickey's on our arrival night, which was a great way to get everyone into the Disney mood. Have a great stay!
