Contemporary Pool

so we have never stayed onsite before but are springing for the Contemporary July 3-July 6 due to ease of getting to MK, EMH July 3 PM and July 5 AM, and firework viewing from the hotel. We are having a resort day on July 4. How is the Contemporary pool? I know there isn’t the theming of the Poly, but do s it have a decent water slide and shade options for lounging? Thanks!

Its certainly the least themed pool at all of the Deluxe resorts, but it still has a slide, a second pool, and a kids area. The "Sandbar" pool bar doesn't have anywhere near as many food offerings as other deluxes pool bars, but you can get a sandwich and a drink. I wouldn't stay and the Contemporary just for the pool, you are already staying there for the right reasons. But it will be cool and wet on a hot July day and the views of Bay Lake are beautiful.

Yep, ditto. It’s lovely compared to any pool anywhere else, but certainly less “special”/themed than other Disney pools. Some trips (ie our upcoming one!) I pick a hotel specifically for the pool/with pool days in mind... other trips, there are other priorities. Sounds like you have your priorities spot on, and will enjoy the pool, too!

IMHO, the pool feels like a time-warp trip back to the '70's and it has the least impressive slide of all the deluxes. That being said, it's still a pool and does the trick on a hot day. I think you picked a great resort for a July 4 holiday in terms of proximity to MK, but the pool probably won't be the highlight of your trip.

Know, also, that staying at the Contemporary doesn't allow you to swim at BLT pool. That is reserved for BLT guests only. But you get the themed pool and the bullseye pool at the water's edge.

We stayed at Contemporary last July 3-7 and very much enjoyed the pool. The slide is super fun! We went down as a family with our teen boys numerous times. They play some music and pool games off in a corner but its not intrusive like at some other pools. The fountains in the pool are a nice feature and we found that the water they spray is colder than the pool water so it is refreshing to stand right under them.

There is plenty of shade. The Sand Bar has a decent menu with several options. We very much enjoyed a chicken quesadilla and a wrap, and the kids loved their burgers and chicken nuggets and fries. They make great drinks there and have a good craft beer selection as well!

We spent time at the pool every day. I liked how compact the whole area is. We had to bail due to thunderstorms a couple times and it was so quick and easy to get back inside the main building.

I think the views of Bay Lake are beautiful from the pool. It's very relaxing. The pool at the Poly always seemed hectic and overcrowded. I don't think that's true for the Contemporary. And being right next to MK on a holiday? Great choice. That's exactly why we chose it for Thanksgiving.

Funny enough, out of every pool she’s ever visited, my daughter prefers the bullseye pool and still talks about it.

If you want guaranteed shade, you might want to consider a cabana rental (if available). It’s pricey but we found the splurge well worth it.
