However, that doesn't mean that Disney will use a YOAMD media event to make a real estate construction announcement. When the time comes to announce the plans for the next DVC resort, DVD Inc. will quietly issue a press release. After all, there won't be anything to sell until 12-24 months later.

Do you think they might announce it during the member cruise or annual meeting? Not huge fanfare and would be to the right audience.

If there's been a "new DVC to be built" press release days, weeks, or months prior to the member cruise or annual meeting, it's likely that the new DVC resort will be mentioned.

It's very unlikely that such a press release would be timed specifically to allow a "surprise announcement" during the member cruise or annual meeting. There's no business reason to do so.

besides I have learned not to trust DVC - they change their minds.... but Disney.

DVC has annouced through the quarterly magazine at least 2 DVC resorts might have been 3 - that never happened.

Disney has made it a habit over the past 2 or 3 years to have these quarterly updates. The Oct. 18th press event in NYC will probably be to update everyone on the progress of the YOMD, the new attractions that will be debuted soon, and anything new (maybe new DVC, who knows).

Why they are having it in NYC again is anyone's guess. Maybe for ease of media purposes, travel, etc.

for the financial market - wall street - is my guess.

The Disney Vacation Club brand and the legal entities that make up Disney Vacation Club — Disney Vacation Club Management Corp., Disney Vacation Development, Inc., DVD Financing, Inc., Buena Vista Trading Company — are all ultimately owned by The Walt Disney Company. So, yes, DVC is "under the Disney stock umbrella."

However, that doesn't mean that Disney will use a YOAMD media event to make a real estate construction announcement. When the time comes to announce the plans for the next DVC resort, DVD Inc. will quietly issue a press release. After all, there won't be anything to sell until 12-24 months later.

unless they're just going to do a small rennovation (all studios) ala the south bldg.??? which wouldn't take much more time than a standard rehab.

never know, might be an avenue for them to explore...less construction costs to equal an acceptable return. Built in base of buyers (either luv it or hate it imo), not sure how many rooms they'd need to make it profitable overall.

Do recall that the south rooms were rehabed last Dec., could see work in progress when WL boat went thru canal.

DVC is too proud of their 1 and 2 bedrooms to put just studios in any DVC resort.

I just can't see that happening.

In August, we were told by a very chatty CM working in a resort very near the CR that they "would not be surprised" to hear about DVC at the CR. They said that the monorail was the only thing that had kept the CR around and that it is the only deluxe that is consistently under-booked. Their comment was that "the CR needs the DVC much more than DVC needs the CR".

I think the CR is hoping that the new rehab rooms and marketing to conventions - will help it enough.

but I agreed.

sometimes that place is pretty empty - except for the Chef Mickey's.

Disney would be charging DVC a premium price for the land. There isn't any way they could justify a small, studio only, DVC resort.

Conventions are booked years in advance. If Disney rehabs the rooms they already know they will be able to rent them for conventions.

Disney has to decide if they want the Contemporary to be a MK/monorail convention hotel or DVC resort. The original "rumor" had Disney trying to do both, the N wing would be DVC and the rest would be convention. My guess is the Contemporary needs those rooms if they want to be a convention hotel.

This is the first thing I've read that makes me wonder if the NYC "event" might contain more than just YOMD info.

The only group other than DisFanatics interested in any major expansion news would be wall street. :listen:

According to an urban legend, bank robber Willie Sutton, when asked why he robbed banks, replied, "because that's where the money is."

The answer to the question about why a media event would be held in New York City is, "because that's where the media are."

Wall Street just cares about the financial numbers that will (or won't) be generated by that marketing fluff — Wall Street doesn't care about the marketing fluff itself. Disney's communication with the financial industry and financial press is different than Disney's communication with the entertainment press, travel press, and "lifestyle" press.

A few hundred new timeshare units (either replacing current hotel rooms or even in addition to current hotel rooms) is not "major expansion news."

True, if the news is "we're converting two floors at the AKL and the North Wing of the CR to DVC", that's no biggie.

But if it's "we're adding a new wing to AKL, a new 15 story tower to CR and our first DVC at DL", that's different.

It all gets back to we don't know, and we've got to wait. :rolleyes1

Last summer (June and July) when the DVC rumor was resurfacing again on the resorts boards and the rumors board I had posted that I really felt Disney would not be converting the North Wing into a DVC. I had suggested that perhaps they were waiting to see how mush demand the Family Suites at All Star Music. That maybe Disney was thinking about combining 2 rooms and making deluxe Family suites out of them with a King bed in the Master area, a kitchenette and room tosleep 4-6 more in the other area.

Than in early August when Tink10 posted the Gwathwmay-Segel drawings of a CR DVC I too became excited and jumped on the CR DVC bandwagon.

Now that the North Wing is closed it looks like some work (or demolition) is going to start taking place pretty soon.

What does Disney have in store for the North Wing?

I am hoping for a press release soon. Hopefully we know by the end of month.
