I keep thinking about the "still only in my mind" spring break trip (we won't book it until we get back from our August trip). Since we are talking peak season, I was thinking about the contemporary garden wing which is the least expensive deluxe (we have 5 people so no WL). We liked the contemporary last time, although we were in the tower, and the garden wing area sounds nice. But reading about how they are shuffling around the restaurant, food and fun center, etc., I don't know if I want to mess with it. We were at the Poly last summer while the food court was relocated and I don't know if I want to deal with it again. Anyone else leery of staying at the contemporary next spring?

While the Food & Fun Center will be closing at the end of this month and there will be a temporary counter service location on the 4th floor, chances are it won't sell hot food the same way things were done when Captin Cook's and Roaring Forks were closed for renovation at the Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge. However unlike those Resorts the Contemporary has a 2nd counter service location by the pool that is called the Contemporary Sand Bar. Their menu is not as big as the Food & Fun Center, however they sell the basic foods that you would have got at the Food & Fun Center. Here is their menu from Allearsnet.com for you to look at.

And it is worth noting that there will be ongoing construction of the new 'North Wing Replacement' .. the actual noise level from construction may be another concern.

Until the actual building starts to get built I should also mention that what is going on where the North Garden Wing use to be, the construction going on there does not effect any guests staying in the Tower and South Garden Wing.

I don't think the remodeling inside the tower will create too many problems for you. The main thing that will be going on at that time is the construction of the new TS restaurant where the Food N Fun Center used to be, and that area should be walled off during the construction. As others have mentioned, there will be a quick service grab and go location on the 4th floor as well as sandwiches at the pool bar. Chef Mickeys and the Concourse Steakhouse should be as they are until the construction on the first floor is finished (which should be well after an April trip, if everything goes according to schedule). As far as building noise from the former North Wing construction site, you would actually be farther away than the tower guests, and I have never had trouble with outdoor noises in them (the fireworks from MK are much quieter in a CR room than the fireworks at Epcot in a BCV/BC room).

I was at the CR during their last major remodel in the early 90's. The lobby was totally blocked off, and the check in desk was moved into the arcade area. The escalators were also turned into tunnels. It was like a maze everytime we went into the tower. They were in the process of remodeling the restaurants on the 4th floor, so food was limited. We still had a great time.

I am not sure if this will happen again but back in January 2000 when the Food & Fun Center was closed for a minor renovation they were selling the mugs at the Contemporary Sand Bar, so that is where everyone went to get refills. So there might be chance they could do that again, because I would bet the temporary counter service location on the 4th floor won't be selling the mugs. Just remember I am only guessing what they might do, so there is also a chance what I said might not happen.

Last December at the Contemporary my family and I had a Magic Kingdom view room on the 12th floor and we did not hear any noise coming from the North Garden Wing. In fact when we would walk by there to get to our car we hardly heard any noise coming from the construction workers who were behind the huge fence they have up.
