Contemporary Construction - Would You Still Book There?

Hi,

We are not planning our trip until July 2008. My DD wants to stay at the CR and we were going to do Bay Tower View.

My question is, has the idea of the construction made anyone nervous about staying there? Would you switch to the Poly in case or take a chance since DD loves the CR?

We currently have reservations ifor CR in June of 2008. My thinking is that we should try and experience the CR before they finish with the big DVC tower, that will add thousands of guests to the food court, Chef Mickey's, the pool (and I realize the new place will have its own pool) and the monorail station. I think the CR will become incredibly busy if they do indeed build that huge tower of rooms where the north garden wing was. I want to experience the CR before all that happens.

If the new tower has a negligible effect on the resort, then we may go back. But, if it does indeed turn the CR into a mad-house, then we will try another resort later. We're keeping our reservations at CR for now.

My question to all the wise DIS people out there is, is there a chance that as construction ramps up they will start kicking people out like the poor AKL people out there? I would hate for that to happen to us.

Any thoughts?

Next August once the Food & Fun Center re-opens as Chef Mickey's Express on the 4th floor where the Concourse Steakhouse use to be, the construction inside will be over. The only thing still going on would be the construction of the DVC building where the North Garden Wing use to be, however since that is located outside it has 100% no effects of anyone who stays in Tower and South Garden Wing.

Would I book at the CR due to construction? Honestly I wouldn't book at the CR again regardless of construction. I know I'm in the minority but I really did not enjoy our stay at CR and have no desire to ever stay there again. We stayed in the now demolished North Garden Wing so staying in the tower might have been better but I don't want to risk it.

Good luck with deciding where to stay and planning your upcoming vacation. Planning is always part of the fun. :)

We were there in the spring when they were tearing down the North Building. I was a little afraid the noise would be bothersome. Actually, it was not bad, and they didn't work weekends or late at night. So, yes I would book during construction. I would think they would try not to inconvienance people with the noise too much. It wasn't bad in our case, and this was a whole building coming down.

It won't add thousands of people. Only a few. It will probably add less than the north wing did. Despite it's size - the experts say it only has 300 to 400 villa. not near enough for thousands.... Remember DVC is strange - lots of studio only have one or two people. WHile the 2-bedroom (which sleeps 8) lots of time have a family of 4.

Your other questions. the reason that AKL is such a problem is that instead of waiting for the new DVC resort to be build. because AKL couldn't fill their rooms, DVC is taking over the 5th and 6th floors. That would cause the problems if you happen to be on the 4th floor under this construction. or worst on the 5th and 6th floors and your room doesn't exist any longer.

3rd, 2nd and 1st should be problems free.

not sure about CR - someone pointed out that the suites were NOT rehab. they got a few of the changes like the new TV. but the restroom were not changed.

this could mean this part might become a DVC resort. Or the Cr doesn't think that the suites need to be rehab yet.

your guess

I'm thinking of CR for a March 2008 stay. At that time they will have a temporary food court on the 4th floor. Sounds like there wont' be an arcade, but that doesn't matter to us. We are eating at Chef Mickey's in 10 days so I can get a better idea about any "nuisance" at that time.

There are so many fabulous place to stay at WDW....

I wouldn't stay anywhere where there is construction going on....
Major construction anyway.
Happy planning

Actually the new arcade on the 4th floor is already open - The Game Station. It's in the location of the old Fantasia shop.

Will it definitely be a DVC being built there or is that just a rumor?

It's still a rumor, Disney hasn't announced anything official. Some believe that the new tower will be family suites, others believe that it will be DVC or will offer both DVC and family suite units.

agree - my belief that the construction is going so slow. is upper management still hadn't decided.

suites are different from DVC resorts. the living area and bathroom are the same. but generally DVC resorts have a full kitchen, while WDW suites only have a kitchennett.

besides these won't be family suites.

the plans are luxury. So I won't describe these as family suites.

Yes, I would stay there. I could only afford to stay in the South Wing, and it's plenty far from the construction.

We really liked our North Wing room. You just can't beat the location of CR, and the rooms are nice and big.

I think with 400 villas at a minimum of 4 guests and that is being conservative, then yes you could easily have over 1600 extra guests. Hopefully though they will have an additional food area in the DVC building, if that is truly what they are building.

the old building was 300 units.

the estimate I heard was 350 units - since that is an estimate I say between 300 and 400.

and no most of the rooms will not have 4 people - I would estimate 3. Many studio and 1-bedroom will have 1 or 2.

even some people with a party of 3 want a GV.:rotfl: I don't have those points.

so lets say between 900 and 1,500 guests.

what it had before was 306 rooms - and it was 5.

so allowing 4* 306 = 1224 guest in the old north wing.

so as I say not a thousand more guest.

here is the map so you can count

I was a little hesitant to book CR for our trip next month because of the rehab. But since it is confined to the ground floor and since we are staying Atrium Club and we could do without a full fledged, 24 hour counter service, I went ahead a booked it! We have been GF addicts for the past few years but are excited to be in the new rooms at the CR!:)

they are lovely!!!

besides I learned with another place - a Hilton. watching construction can be fun. just as long as you aren't doing it.
