our family is planning to stay at the Contemporary Resort, does anyone have any comments?

We LOVED the Contemporary. Nice Castmembers, huge rooms, great layouts for the bathrooms, convenient to MK (can even walk there), pools are pretty good, and one has a slide and 2 hot tubs. We stayed in the South Wing overlooking Bay Lake, and could lie in bed and watch the Electrical Light Pageant. Great lounge on the 4th level overlooking the pool, called the Outer Rim, great shopping. Lots of artwork with Mickey. We call this resort, Mickey's Resort!

we too loved the CR! We went during Christmas and it was great. You can't beat the location. Plus the management was and cast members are great. we needed to call 911 one night and the night manager came to our room to wait with us and also checked up on the next day. he also brought us a medicine measureing cup from his home when the meds we bought didn't come with one.

We have stayed at CR every year (just about) since 1997, and we just love it there. Mostly what we love is the lively atmosphere, and the convenience of being on the monorail. MK is my favorite park, and riding the monorail through the hotel is magical to me. You simply must have breakfast at Chef Mickey's, the food is fabulous!! Are you staying in one of the wings or in the tower? We prefer the tower, since everything is right there, however the wing rooms are cheaper. We feel the tower is worth the extra money. If you stay for the parades or fireworks at night, you can walk back to your room, and not have to wait in the mass exodus after the shows. The stores in the tower are great, they have a sundries store for convenience items. I just cannot say enough good things about CR. HAVE FUN!!! :cool1:

With 2 kids in strollers we loved being able to walk back to our resort when they got tired or overwhelmed by Magic Kingdom. Being on-site of Chef Mickeys was also quite a treat for the boys, and being on-site of California Grill was quire a treat for us. There is no better spot from which to view the fireworks than from the CG.

Enjoy.

Loved our stay at the Contemporaty. The pool area is great, rooms are huge. Being able to walk to the MK is a BIG advantage.

Okay, here's one vote for NOT LIKING IT!

We toured the CR when we visited last month--I could not get over what a dump it was. I am shocked that people pay top dollar to stay there. Concrete, dark, gloomy, low ceilings, outdated early 80's decor, horrible carpeting, and not well maintained either...think college dorm room, or worse, prison!

I hear they are planning a massive overhaul of the CR...I say go for it, start with the bulldozer!!!

I would suggest looking up pictures of the hotel online so you know what you're in for--I've stayed at Holiday Inns that look nicer than the CR!

PS--I do agree, however, that the location can't be beat...quick monorail ride...but the location of the Poly and GF are equally good and MUCH nicer hotels to boot!

And hopefully you will too. We stayed there in 1999, haven't stayed since. However, not because anything "non-magical" happened. It was a very nice stay, it's just not our favorite resort. So many resorts, so little time. We liked the location, and the rooms were pretty big. Enjoyed it overall, but we prefer the Poly! We stayed in a garden wing. I would like to try the tower some time. Maybe one day I will!!

While you're there, definitely eat at the Concourse Steakhouse. It's truly a hidden gem. You don't hear much about it on these boards, but we think they have delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner...at a very reasonable price.

Ours is staying there too...in March! There seem to be differing opinions on CR, but just as anything else; to each his own! Looking forward to deciding for myself. We were there this past December to have dinner at Chef Mickeys (fun!!) We were able to walk to/from MK...I cannot begin to tell you how convenient that was! I have a feeling that alone may FAR outweigh ANY of the negatives I have read about....have fun...when are you going? and welcome to the boards...LOTS of wonderful information to be found here.
