We are looking at going back in Oct 2010 and have been pricing up our options. We are a family of 5 so have limited choices. last time we stayed at FW and loved it. BUT if we stay there this time we get only the quick service dining plan, however for the same price we could stay at the contemporary with the full DDP. My oldest son longs to stay at the contemporary as he loves the monorail. I'm not sure if I like it and have been reading some reviews that say it is looking old, tired and dated.

Anyone ever stayed here and what are your thoughts on it.

Hi,

We stayed at The CR a few years ago AND LOVED IT!!!! It was before the rehab and we stayed for the same reasons as you're thinking (although it was me that loved the monorail noit my son!!!). It was looking a bit shabby but when we visited again on our last trip and following the redecoration etc., it's beginning to look great (although my DW pointed out that their new decor is similar to the new McDonalds - brown and creams etc.).

The concourse with the monorail etc. is awesome and IMHO it has the best resort shopping of all the resorts. Chef Mickey's is good (although we didn't enjoy it as much the second time around).

It's a very clever hotel and I would always try and stay on a monorail hotel (but have been spoiled by the GF!!!)

Hiya Scottish Mum.

We too are a FW family, and for the first time this year have changed to SSR, mainly due to the fantastic offers currently available.

Anyways, the main concern I would have about CR is the lack of space, presumably you would be getting two rooms which would inter-connect. :confused3

But if like me, you are used to the independence of the Cabins ie Kitchen etc I think I would rather stick to the Cabins at FW and just upgrade the dining plan to the Delux. Additionally all the cabins have just recently been upgraded while at the CR I think once the hotel next door is fully up and running it will undergo a serious refurb, or should in my opinion if the past reports on the Resorts Thread are anything to go by.

No we would be only getting one room and that is the main thing putting me off. I don't fancy being stuck in one room with the kids but the easiness of the monorail is a bonus. Maybe I'll wait and see if SSR offers come round again for next year

im going there in 3 weeks, weve been before and love it.

i just loved the location and ease of getting on the monorail :)

we loved it 2
family of 5 there was plenty room for us all in the 1 bedroom
sure we spent most of the time in the parks

loved been able to walk to MK

I'm not sure how the room sizes compare but we once stayed at AKL and my DH always says it was the only thing that was a negative during the whole magical trip.

Baring in mind our children are quite young, and therefore we are normally in on an evening for at the latest 9 o'clock I would say, plus we always stay for 3 weeks too which adds to the need for space.

Additionally I enjoy the ability to grab a quick breakfast in the Cabin, as after 2 weeks eating out for breakfast day after day became quite repetative for us when we were at AKL.

Personally I would stick with FW and maybe, if your on the dining plan, enjoy a couple of breakfast at say, 1900 Park Fayre, Ohanas and Chef Mickeys, that way you can experience the monorail also. That is what we are planning on doing this October.

thats exactly what we did last year and it worked well so will probably stick with it.

Don't think i'll book just yet though, going to wait and see if any more offers come out.

Hello again.

If I'm honest we had rebooked to return to FW, but with the recent offers we amended our booking only last week for a £25.00 admin costs and rebooked SSR in a 2 Bedroomed Villa, with Free dining for less than our original booking.

I know that at the end of last year people were posting that they received 42% off either SSR or OKW with Free Dining for this year , I think you had to book before the 1st Dec 08 staying before the 1st October 09, so you never know they may well repeat this offer for you.

I do love FW though, and am slightly aprehensive about trying somewhere new

Natalie having stayed at CBR with a teenager I can't say strongly enough go for space! I know we all think that we go to the parks all the time & we are never in the room etc. but in reality you wake up there, watch tv there ....We are maybe biased ,as when we stayed off-site we always took family suites or equivalent & everyone had their own space.
I see that you are going for the Free Dining,if DS thinks that the Contemp is impressive wait till you see AKL & WL,if we win the lottery:rotfl2:that's where we're going!
By the way if you do stay at the Contemp go downstairs & eat at the Wave,it was a big :thumbsup2 from the 3 of us.
SD;)
