From June 2007 issue rating "Diet Plans"-
I was surprised at this ;)
It's: VOLUMETRICS
What it is: Based on research at Penn State, diet aims to maximize the amount of food available per calorie, mainly by use of reduced-fat products, liberal addition of vegetables, and low-fat cooking techniques. Encourages first course of brothbased soup or low-calorie salad to take the edge off appetite.
Pros and cons: Recent clinical trials show best overall weight loss of any diet evaluated. We judged the recipes appetizing but somewhat time-consuming to prepare.

Then they have (in order):
Weight Watchers
Jenny Craig
Slim Fast
e Diets
Zone Diet
Ornish
Atkins
*******
Anybody here have experience with "Volumetrics"?

They also rated "Diet Books", but didn't include them in the above because they said these had not been put to the large clinical trial as the ones above - in order of their ratings:

The Best Life Diet
Eat,Drink & Weigh Less
You on a Diet
The Abs Diet
The South Beach Diet
The Sonoma Diet
Ultra Metabolism

:dance3:

Weight loss is a less relevant measure than weight-loss maintenance. The question for the ages is how to lose weight and keep it off for life.

That sounds like any decent diet out there. Which diet doesn't promote those things?

90% of all the things you read in every diet is the same, the other 10% is just marketing to distinguish themselves from the rest of the crowd. But people tend to focus on that 10% instead of realizing that most of these diets are all saying the same thing. The science of diet and exercise has not changed that much to warrant all these new fad diets.

The #1 rated diet is the one that works best for you and that you will stick with.

Hello-

Thanks for posting this information. I think the key is when a system that once succeeded for you starts to fail (either you are bored to tears, can't count another point, or need new recipes) it is OK to look around and try something new.

The South Beach Diet has some decent recipes. I will die if I ever ever ever have to do Phase I again. BUT, everyone agrees his Phase II and Phase III are more of a lifestyle for eating and are excellent for you!

When I do WW, I freak out & don't eat as I am trying to hoard my points. But, WW also has some awesome cook books and you do have their flex plan where you don't count points.

Although I've never formally done Slim Fast, I love their meal bars. They are dense and not crumby, so I can't munch one in the car for breakfast without making a mess. The new optima bars really do keep hunger at bay better than the old versions. I've gotta say that a rich chocolate brownie meal bar and an ice cold diet coke is probably my favorite on the go breakfast.

I am reading You on a Diet now. The book has a lot of science about why you gain weight and what processes are causing you to slip up. My neighbor who bought the copy I am reading didn't like the book at all. She prefers diets that tell you exactly what to eat for each meal for weeks at a time. I think the book is an interesting read and the exercise plan in the back is realistic. I recommend xeroxing it - especially if you travel for your job.

If you have ever learned a bit from a recent nutrition class or being on any of these rated diets, you know what to do. You need to start eating well as a way of life, not a diet. :flower3:

I own The Abs Diet book. When I was following it, it worked very well. I was beginning to actually see my abs. But then I fell off the wagon. I need to break the book back out. It's not really a diet just some guidelines and exercises.
