Just wondering what is happening next door to Aulani where the former JW Marriott was. Is this an active construction site? Any impact on enjoying the pools and beach at Aulani?

Complete Remodel • Didn't effect our friends stay over the holidays.

Thanks! I was worried that it was going to affect the outside. We're going in May for 12 nights and have requested a unit in the wing that's closest to the JW.

They stayed on the garden side - where the luau is held.

A Four Seasons is being built. Last I heard they said it was going to be open in "mid-2016"

When I called last week to book spa treatment she did say that on occasion you might hear some banging
or a saw when outside in the hydrotherapy garden (which is on the side next to the future Four Seasons)
but that you can't hear it inside the hotel. I think they are keeping the shell of the hotel just refurbishing.
I don't know where our room will be in late Feb but I hope we aren't having our naps disturbed (crossing fingers)

Good to know. We are in a Ocean View GV so we will be on the end-cap of that wing upper floor. That will put the Master BR very close the the construction.

The Four Seasons website says they are taking reservations starting 5/27/16. So I guess that's a good sign of when the construction will end. We arrive 5/28 to Aulani so I'm going to stop worrying about it! Hopefully they finish early so as to not disrupt things for others!

We were there Thanksgiving week and I was surprised at how little impact it had. We stayed in the tower further away from the construction so no noise issues there, but even on the beach and at the pools I think I heard something once or twice. I even made a comment to my husband multiple times that I did not understand how come we did not hear the noise. They had big excavation equipment working on the Four Seasons pool area and I really did not hear it, but did see the machines moving. I would not want a room facing the Four Seasons until it is done. When we were there all the toilets were out on the balconies wrapped in green shrink wrap. :) our friends were initially given a room looking that direction, but requested and received a change.

We just got back after being there over MLK weekend. Over the weekend there was not much construction activity, but on Tuesday when we left, the jackhammering was quite loud and noticeable throughout the pool area. Not quite sure what they're doing but it does involve more than just an internal refreshing. The spa also warned us when we made our reservations about possible construction noise since the Kula Wai hydrotherapy gardens are on that edge of the property. We had our massages late on Saturday when there was no work underway, but had there been I think it would have seriously distracted from the peacefulness of the spa. Perhaps book accordingly if you'll be there before it's completed.

Thanks @EWL for that report. Really hoping that this is resolved by the time we go in May.

The construction on the 4 seasons will only really impact your view of the sunset from the lagoon if the walls are still up, the rail construction that will be ongoing for many years will probably have more of an impact on you even tho its nowhere near aulani.

Construction in hawaii...almost never finishes early, and most of the time takes quite a bit longer than planned...ever hear of being on "hawaiian time"...typically it also means that construction starts later in the day, and ends earlier too especially near resorts.

IMG_4191.JPG Here's a visual, FYI-- view from the 'Ewa tower of the Wai'anae tower, pool area, and Four Seasons directly adjacent with construction equipment visible.

We were there from Christmas to New Years. We spent most of our pool time sitting near the Ka Maka Grotto (re: the infinity pool). During the work days in between the holidays, we could barely hear any construction sounds. Between the music played over the PA system and the sounds of people having fun, most of the work noise was pretty much drowned out. Plus, it is not like they are building the hotel - they are merely renovating it. So, with most of the work happening in the interior, the building itself contains most of the noise during our time at Aulani.

I'm unfamiliar with any rail construction. Please elaborate.
