Thinking of putting some baby furniture in the local consignment shop. Anyone have any experience doing this? How much of a charge can I expect from the shop?

Is this preferable to using Craigslist or local paper to sell the furniture?

TIA

probably come away with 50-60% of the sale, and I don't think you have any say in what they sell it for.

We have sold a lot of things on CL and have been happy with it. It's free, you can post pictures, and you set/haggle the price yourself.

Good luck!

I take my children's clothes and get more than I would if I sold at yard sale. I think cosignment shops are great for clothes, but would post furniture on craigs list. Consignment shops usually do 50/50 split, so you would probably make much less through a shop.

Do a meta search of consignment sales in your area. You can get 70% with one of the "temporary" sales. They usually run for a couple of weeks (some do 4 weeks) in a given month. Typically the sales are before school starts, before Christmas, and Springtime.

I own a consignment sale and my split is 70/30 with a $10 fee and you set your own price with the option of it going 1/2 price. I would suggest trying CL first for furniture so that you won't have to mess with transportation.
