we are so close found one we like
it is at okw now since this one expires
in 2042 is it really worth the money compaired
to the other dvc's out there??

The other WDW DVC resorts will cost you 10-40% more than OKW to purchase. On Weekdays the stays there are 20-25% less than points the other resorts. So if you like the “style” and location of OKW it is the best bargain of the WDW DVCs.

If you want OKW, and want the contract to expire in 2057, you can buy direct through Disney, but it is pricey.

OKW is the oldest resort, but has noticably more room than the other resorts. Personally, I love the feel of both OKW and SSR. Regardless of the $$$, buy where you want to stay. I think most people would agree that they would rather spend a little more or buy a little less and have an 8-11 month booking advantage at their home resort.

Many people still love OKW and take advantage of the lower point structure. I have a 1-BR booked at VWL this summer and can book a 2-BR at OKW for about 12 more points. At least for as long as I've been watching the boards (about a year and a half), the resale value of OKW has stayed pretty consistent.

Is it worth it? I think it depends on what you want. I just purchased at VB, because I wanted points there. So even though the MFs are highest of all DVC resorts, the resale value is low, and the contract ends in 2042, it was worth it to me.

Best of luck!!! :goodvibes

we do like okw but what is bothering me is the 2042 compared to the 2057 i don't know why...i will probably be gone by that time anyway:rotfl2: .

the add on well...from what i have read disney is now charging 25 dollars but they are on sale for 20 no more 15 dollars and if i do add the add on well lets say i could buy almost buy ssr from disney at this point with the $500 gift card but it would be 40 less points but at least ssr expirers on 2054:confused3

It really depends on your age and what you prefer. I LOVE OKW, and don't exactly feel the same way about SSR, although I think it is okay. We will be in our mid 90's when the 2042 expiration happens, so we didn't extend our contracts to 2057. I really doubt by the time we want to sell in 20 years that it really will make that much difference in the resale price at that point. Since we really have NO intention of ever selling, it didn't make sense to us to extend.

If you like OKW and like the fact that we have larger units, less point cost and historically low comparison dues, then I'd go for it and add on at a later resort if you think you will need DVC later than 2042.

Every resort brings it's own special unique style. I, personally love the vibe at OKW, the lush landscaping, it truly reminds me of the keys. I like all of the other resorts and have stayed from time to time in them but my al time favorite is OKW. I have 210 points and I get more bang for my points by staying at OKW. Is the resort older, sure but I've seen the wear and tear at each resort. It's idealistic to beleive that things don't age, and OKW is maintained just like all of the other resorts. Example, the Boardwalk, is a favorite amongst families w/ children and it gets a lot of use, I've seen just as much wear and tear there as anywhere else. AKV is brand new, so of course it will appear fresher than the older resorts. In the end, it has to be about weighing what you would prefer against what you can afford. Good Luck!

I think the additional years at SSR and AKV would be a good thing if you decide or have to sell in 10 to 20 years from now. In other words, if you decided to get rid of your DVC in 2020, a 2057 contract would be easier to sell than a 2042 contract.

I think we are finally going to take the plunge. So now it's just the decision of 150 points at BWV (resale) or 160 at AKV. With the incentives and the extra years, AKV is in the lead right now.

We just put in an offer for WLV for 50 points. I was debating on OKW or not but because our resort of choice is WLV we opted for that. OKW would be a great choice. THe lower initial price was a big draw for me, and I am not concerned wih the shorter contract term. I mean Who knows if I will be able to even walk in 2042.

Maybe not, but your family can prop you up by the pool! :lmao: At 80+, that's probably what DS intends for me.

You have to remember that several of the DVC resorts expire in 2042 (VWL, BWV, BCV, original OKW contracts)

The 2 newest ones (SSR-2054 AKV-2057) don't and any OKW contracts that opted for the recent extension don't. They haven't offered the other "2042" resort owners extensions yet but its logical to assume they will at some point.

We own at AKV and are seriously considering grabbing a 2042 OKW contract via resale because of the huge cost savings and low point costs of the OKW units during most times of the year. Even with a 2042 expiration thats still 34 years from now and a lot of Disney time before its worthless.
