I am a total newbie to this process. My ideal situation would be to purchase points that could be transferred to a stay at the Poly or the AKL. We are looking at travelling in December of 2005. Check in on 12/09 and check out on 12/17. We are planning to purchase AP's this time.

Can someone please shed some light on the process? I don't know if this is going to be a money saver or not. Thanks! Maggie

Hi Maggie,

Neither the Poly nor the AKL are DVC properties, and it's not the best value to use points there. I'm guessing that you were thinking of renting points, not buying them, but I could be wrong.

Yes, this would be a rental situation. I do not have any inclination to purchase a timeshare. It's ok for some folks, but it makes no sense for us. Thanks for the info. Maggie

Those are both great resorts! But you'll definitely get a MUCH better price by keeping an eye on these boards and trying to get an Annual Passholder's rate for your room. You can book the room now and hope for an AP rate later. The December AP discounts came out in August or September this year, and you don't even have to have purchased the AP to be able to book the discounted rate.

Renting DVC points can be a very good value for the DVC home-away-from-home resorts (especially Sunday through Thursday nights), but not for the regular WDW resorts.

The 2005 point charts are not out yet for non-DVC but using the 2004 chart, for Poly Garden it would be 32 points weeknights and 58 points weekends (per night). AKL Savannah view would be 30/54. At $10 per point, I don't think it would be a good value. You would be much better off waiting to see if code or AP rates come out. Once you decided to rent points, it's very difficult if you change your mind or find something better.

Exactly the information that I was hoping for. Thanks folks. I love the Disboards, you guys never let me down. I kind of had the idea that AP rates would be better, but it never hurts to look at all the options. Thanks again to everyone. Maggie
