Hello, we are considering purchasing DVC at Old Key West. We are leaning towards resale. Did anyone who purchased at OKW hesitate with the 2042 deadline? I realize you can buy an extended contract but those are more difficult to find. In this case, buying direct might make more sense. However, if we try to sell a resale at OKW, it will be more of a challenge without an extended contract. Does anyone expect DVC to extend other contracts expiring in 2042? Thanks for any insight. We are trying to do our research to make the best decision, and hopefully, the best contract for our family.

OKW will give you 20 years of joy - great choice! We have several 2042 contracts and flipped a 150 point contract for $116 which DVC took in ROFR a few weeks ago, though I wouldn't make your offer based on that. AFAIK that is the highest they have taken so far.

I would suggest buying several small contracts as a hedge against 2042. 50 points is ideal IMO. You pay more in closing, but you know you have an offramp down the road.

We now have 125 (2057), 100, 25 and 25 (2042) and will pick up more small 2042's if we can. In fact we have a 30 point OKW in ROFR now. Small contracts sell fast and are expensive, but if you do a search with all the resellers multiple times a day you might get lucky.

If you can get a deal on a 2057 that is ideal...and they do happen. If you are younger I would try to hold out for a 2057 and just be flexible with your UY. We're close to retirement so want options.

No, DVC will not be extending 2042. Study the ROFR threads and read all the blogs on the resale sites and make notes. When your ideal contract pops up you can't hesitate for a moment or it will be gone, so be ready! Good luck!

When you buy OKW resale, Disney will make the seller sign a quitclaim deed to the extra years, if they haven't already done it. You see them filed all the time. You will definitely expire in 2042. The extension was such a cluster and a failure, I doubt it gets attempted in Disney or any other similar timeshare system ever.

I would argue it's unclear what happens to original owners in 2042 who haven't signed, but that won't be you.

I used to have a better argument for 2042 resorts, but recent resale has been insane. To me, it was worth paying a little more for resale SSR 2054.

I’d buy direct at okw since personally I’d want the extended and finding those in uy and points amount would take a while and in the end wouldn’t be that much cheaper than direct.
