I would love some input re: offsite rentals. We are going in May and staying at the Poly, which we LOVE, but just wouldn't be feasible in Dec - higher prices and 2nd trip in one year....
So, for Dec we are considering 4 nights at Disney/a week at the beach somewhere south gulf coast. If we do that, I'm not too worried about the Disney stay, any decent hotel would be fine.
But, we are also considering 10-11 nights all at Disney, so then our rental will be VERY important. We would likely do Disney parks most mornings at rope drop until in gets too crazy, then relax back at the home for the rest of the day, swim etc.
I would really like a free-standing pool home with spa if at all possible, I love the thought of DH and I relaxing in the spa after the kiddos go to bed! So, I'm looking at a variety of places. Reunion Resort looks GREAT!! Everything we would like, but I don't think we could afford a pool home, it would probably have to be a smaller home/condo with no pool. Are the amenities there worth it?? My kids LOVE a slide and/or lazy river. Windsor Hills looks great also! We could probably do a pool home there, and their amenities also look great. There's one thing holding me back, it's probably silly, but the 48" height requirement for the pool slide - DS would likely be able to do it, but not DD. Not sure if that will be more pain than it's worth, if you KWIM??
Any others you'd recommend? Should we forgo the private pool/spa (I'd be happy with just a spa, but that doesn't seem very common) for great onsite pool features? or no?
Some details about us - kids will be 7 and 5 then, we'd likely eat most meals in - we're doing DDP in May, this Dec. trip will just be about getting away, enjoy the parks a bit, but just enjoying being together, celebrating Christmas. May do a Cape Canaveral day. We will drive down from Ohio, so we'll have our car. Distance to parks isn't a Huge deal, but I don't want to be too far, either. Dates I'm looking at our Dec. 19-29th or 30th.
One other thing, sorta OT, but in case anyone has any thoughts. Which idea do you think is better (considering we're doing a week in Disney in May) - 4 nights at Disney, a week at the beach OR all 11 or so nights in Disney? I'm most worried about the weather. If it happens to be cool, at least at Disney we have so much to do. If it's warm, great, we'll swim, go to BB, etc. too. Christmas at the beach sounds HEAVENLY to me - but what if it's cold? What will we do with ourselves for a week? I know we need to go far south, but friends have told me they've been in the Keys in Dec/Jan with only temps in the 60's! I'd love any thoughts on this as well!
