If using them for the August trip is part of the purchase equation then it sounds like you're looking at purchasing direct. I'd make it a condition of the purchase that they reserve a room rather than just rely upon the thought that you'll be able to book with points. Almost certainly DVC will need to pull up some of their inventory from somewhere in order to make it happen - if they even have it.
Also, if buying direct at PVB you can cutomize the number of points you buy. As I understand they will sell as small as a 50 point contract to new purchasers. If having too many points is the current concern you could buy the lower amount you feel you'll need and then add on later if necessary.
I spoke to my DVC contact again and stated I will not move forward unless they can rebook as DVC. If we can not get DVC points then i would hold off on the purchase for now. She said she was fine with us because our HOME would be the same Resort we are staying in so she feels pretty confident in rebooking if we buy. As another poster said, it WILL be a condition. That was a great idea.
We considered lower point total. We actually have mapped out the next 5 years and there is a roadmap for using points. Her concern is when LIFE comes up and maybe we cant go as we have scheduled. We know the club is right for us at this time as when the family comes, we will be there often. I was never able to go to Disney a lot as a child and i want my children to go every year. We know the prices will go up and the cheaper price per point options will get less. That is why we think we actually might go through with it now.
IMO it's a mistake to rush around to get that next trip on points instead of cash. It often leads to a poor decision and a false sense of urgency. Rent the points if you can get something that works then look for the perfect loaded contract that works for you. You'll pay less, make a better decision, likely need a slightly smaller contract (depending on what you're looking at anyway) and be less stressed. The actual price difference of renting compared to the same contract a year from now is meniscal, on a 200 point contract it's only about $5-6 a point difference if all else is equal but since all else wouldn't be equal, the difference would likely be significantly less. IMO buying VB for WDW is a mistake and will be more long term because of the dues.
Agreed. Few things to clear up as I probably did not explain myself fully and correctly.
1 - Vero Beach will not be our home. The maintenance fees were high. We would be Saratoga if we do sign. the Vero beach example I provided is another option of where we could use our points as we do go to Spring Training often. I realize that looked wrong as I sometimes type as I talk...fast lol. Saratoga price and fees to us seem to be the best package.
2 - This is the third time I have considered joining DVC. The first two were just not the right time. Either I just was too young or the last time we did not move forward because we knew we would be getting married and with the costs of NY weddings...we just needed the cash at the time.
This time is a little different. Without getting into details, we are currently in a position where we know we can buy something we talked about a few times and not stress down the road about it.
We know how we travel and we often will stay at the nicer results and we compared prices to point totals etc. We really feel DVC makes sense for us and our future family.
We actually were looking at a lower point total but when we thought about 5-10 years from now and we concluded that we might need more points down the road. We would rather just do it now when the position allows us and then thats it. Wont have to buy more.
In a way your right. We are kind of rushing...but because we are ready...and we know being so close to August if this can happen where we rebook and start using points, we want to move fast to ensure we get the accommodations we want, which we have been told we will.
Next year we are going to Europe again for something. We might still sign up in August but then we will not be using points in our first year, we would rather sign up 2 months earlier and start using our points. Kind of where the urgency comes in.
Again, if they can not rebook for points, i will not sign up right now. That condition has to be met.
