Considering DVC/Point Question

If I purchase 150 points (BCV) in August of this year and do the MB with a Feb. 2003 Use Year, can I make reservations for April 2004 by borrowing points from 2004? How about if I need a few more points than 150 - can I borrow some from 2005 or no because I would be making the reservations after I close in August of 2003? Thanks.

Correct me if I'm wrong veteran DVC'ers. You can book for 4/04 but you can't borrow 2 yrs ahead (your in 03 till 2/04 so can't use 05 pts). To make a ressie you need all points in place at that time. I think you could rent the additional pts but you would need to have them available when you make reserv. Are you sure 150 is enough? You haven't even bought yet and your already short(just a thought) Good Luck. Enjoy your DVC purchase.

Good News!
If you buy in August of this year you will be buying February 2003 points.
Using MB you will still have 150 points coming February of 2004!
I did the same thing and I didn't regret it. $1500.00 off is a great deal. You can make your ressie with your 2004 points, it will be in your current use year...No Borrowing!

You will be payin prorated annual fees for the 2003 points and start off fresh with the 2004 points...

Thanks Disneyaholic I knew people on this bb would have it all down. Could you clear up my confusion- If he makes the ressie now its still 03 use year,so I thouht you could only borrow 1 yr ahead so wouldn't he have to wait till after 2/04 to borrow 05 pts?

I am not sure if they would make you wait until feb 04 to borrow the 05 pts.

He is actually vacationing in 2004, so his pts would come from his Feb contract in 2004, as long as he doesn't vacation in Jan 2004, he's OK. Since he is in his current use year when he actually takes his vacation, he could borrow from 2005 when he makes his ressies. It doesn't matter when the ressies are made, the important thing is when he plans to vacation.

I think it goes by the reservation checkout date so you could book now and borrow, But I am not totally sure.
Check with MS or your guide on Monday.

With a February use year, for an April 2004 stay you would be using 2004 points as current year, you would not need to borrow unless you need more than your annual allotment. It goes by the date of the stay, not the date you make your reservation. Your February 2004 points would be good for stays February 1, 2004 to January 31, 2005. You could borrow 2005 because the stay is in your 2004 use year. You may have to wait until after closing to borrow.

You may want to check with your guide, if you buy in August you will probably get March points since the 100% banking deadline for February is July 31.
