We are considering doing the 5K on Castaaway Cay, but I have a few questions....

  1. Are there lockers on the island? I would want sneakers for the 5K, but not for the rest of the day.
  2. Do most people usually stay on the island after the 5K, or go back to the ship to change and/or shower and then go back to the island?
All other thoughts appreciated....

1. No lockers. There is a wooden bin that people put stuff in, but it's all in there together.
2. Hard to say whether "most" do or not. Some remain on the island, others go back to the ship. Probably fairly evenly divided.

Thought - it's really hot and humid on Castaway Cay (most of the year). Be prepared for that.

1. Communal wooden bins.
2. The best way to cool off is to swim in the ocean. There are also outdoor showers by the restrooms at CC. I wouldn't bother going back to the ship to freshen up for hanging out at a beach. We do that after we're done with the beach.

1) there is a bin no lockers. So it is always at your own risk but I've never had anything walk off.

2) 1st time I went back to the ship, 2nd time I changed in the bathroom then used the outdoor shower to freshen up since I was in a bathing suit at that point.

You tired of the snow Paul and cold? Cold day here in south jersey

We ran the 5k last month -- one of the highlights of the cruise! I packed a beach bag (nothing valuable -- hats, sunscreen, books, etc), then dropped it off on a couple of beach chairs as we walked to the start. We ran, hung out on the beach for a few, then walked back to the ship to change (and got great character pics on the way back!). Quick shower and change into swimsuits, then back to the beach.

What is the normal time frame ? Off the ship to start at ? ? am and then about 1/2 hour run ?

I may be off on my exact times, but I think the meet up time on the ship was 8, they checked everyone in, went over the route ( all of this took at least 30 minutes), we walked off as a group (meanwhile other guests had started to mix in) and walked to the start (probably another 30 min). Running was actually the shortest part -- I know it was after 9 when we started. I do wish they would streamline the process but I don't want to complain too much about a free event.

Checked with my running coach, who has done this a zillion times (and also says it's a fun, easy must-do to not take seriously). She says the meeting times will vary, but it's generally 8-8:15.

I go back for a shower and some breakfast.

I go back for a shower and some breakfast.

That is what I do too.

I know some people do walk it, and if I were to do that and not work up much of a sweat, I may not waste the time going back on board, but I've never not needed to shower after. ;) Also, I find it is easier so I only have to bring what I need for the run in my running fanny pack. I don't bother bringing the beach bag for the day then.

Good luck!

as mentioned just bring a backpack/bag or what ever with your stuff I wouldnt bring anything valueable but for the most part they have CM's keeping an eye on things I never worried about my stuff tbh....

and to cool down just go jump in the ocean after you're done

I go back for a shower and some breakfast.

Same.

First time I changed into swimsuit in the women's bathroom and rinsed off outside, but it's not as nice as a good shower, drying off in the room, properly sunscreening up, and having breakfast. Plus my family are generally sleeping in so it's a way to go get them.

I've also stayed on the island post-run when we had a cabana, but the changing space is tiny in there and again the shower isn't private.

I absolutely agree. I felt like I could have run the 5k twice if all of the waiting around was reduced.

I think it depends on your comfort level of sweatiness and your plan for the day.

My husband and I planned to rent bicycles after the 5k so going back to the ship for a shower and then getting sweaty again would be pointless for us. I wore quick-dry clothing, and my shorts have a zipper pocket in the waistband where I stored my ID and KTTW card. If you plan to change into swim clothes, throw those in a bag and put it in the storage bin. We spent a short time sitting in beach chairs at Serenity Bay while we waited for lunch to open up, but we remained in our 5k clothes until after we ate and returned our rentals.

Like others mentioned, you can leave your stuff in the trunk at the start/finish of the race. Race meetup time varies, although it rarely coincides well with childcare, I've noticed...clubs and nursery open at 9 am and the meetup is almost always before this. It does take a while to meet, talk, and walk to the start area. I usually meet DH and the kids somewhere on the island after I get done, although we did once meet up on the ship. I generally take my swimsuit and other beach stuff in a bag and he brings the rest with the kids. I've never worried about a shower after the race since we are headed to the beach.
