Considering buying WL - but I have a question!

Actually, I'll probably have lots of questions! LOL! But here's my first one:

The sales agent told me that the number of points needed per night will NEVER change. He said that they've been the same since the beginning and they will NEVER change!

But, when reading through the book he gave me - in the back it said something to the effect of: points per night subject to change!

Any ideas on whether or not they can just change them in the future? If we buy now, are we "locked in" at those points per night?

My understanding when we signed on this past November is that they can change the number of points needed at different times of the year, but that when they raised a certain time of year, they might lower a different time of year, thus giving you the ability to always be able to take the same length vacation at some point in your use year. Anybody else?

They can change and have changed.

Did he try to talk you into VB points too?

The number of points required to stay in one unit for a year can never change. They can raise one season but they have to make an equal reduction in another season.

An adjustment was made at OKW around '95 or '96. They raised the points required for off-season stay, but lowered an equal number of points from high seasons.

The total per year cannot change, but the points per night can be adjusted up or down, depending on the seasons. For instance, if a week goes up in one season, a week in another will have to go down. I know they have been adjusted once since I bought in in '94.

The DVC points can be adjusted but overall not increased.

The points needed to stay at other WDW hotels, Concierge Collections, Cruise, etc. are subject to change every time the program is re-negotiated.

The DVC points have changed only once and that was at OKW going from 1995 to 1996. The chart below shows the changes that were made. A "+" indicates points per night were increased that amount. A "-" indicates points were decreased.

Example: In Adventure Season, a Studio Sun-Thurs went from 7 points/night to 8 points/night = +1.

In Premiere Season, a Grand Villa on Fri/Sat went from 170 points/night to 162 points/night = -8.

Everyone here is correct. Each resort has a certain amount of points allocated. When DVC changes the number of points needed for a certain night they must reduce the number of points needed elsewhere.

For example, If a Sat. stay during value season is 20 points right now and they wanted to make it 25 they would need to reduce 5 points somewhere else on the chart. They can either reduce one night 5 points or 5 different nights 1 point each.

There was one other change for the better. When BW first opened, all the rooms were at the preferred rate. A two bedroom would cost you 32 pts per night. There must have been some complaints about views of the parking lot etc..., and DVC came up with the standard view rooms. Now some of those two bedrooms cost you 24 points for the same time, while the preferred still cost you 32. I wonder if the WLV will have the same problem. I have seen them from a boat, but not up close yet.
