Considering buying DVC resale...

My husband and I have been looking at DVC on and off for the past 2 or 3 years, as we go to Disney A LOT. (see below) but are thinking about buying 50 points to try it out, and see if we like it or not. (we went to open house for Saratoga Springs back in 2004, but didn't want to take out 150 points all at once)

The question I have is that is it possible or should I say somewhat easy to buy that few points, as when I look at the Timeshare Store website I see only contracts of 100 points or higher. Do they let you buy only a portion of the contract, or do you just have to wait for one that small to come up? If so do those type of contracts come up frequently?

I also know that Disney has the right of refusal, how often does that happen with contracts that small? Is it better to buy maybe 80 points?

Also we usually go in late January for our anniversary, and are looking at either VWL or OKW, but say I buy out of OKW and want to stay a few days at VWL is it hard at that time of year to get into a different resort like VWL or Boardwalk Villas?

Last question on banking, I have figured out so far that you can bank your points to use the following year, but it looks like you have to bank them 6 months or more before the end of your year, is that right?

Thanks ahead of time!

I don't review the Timeshare Store resale board often but I have seen small 25 to 50 point contracts come up for sale from time to time. It seems to me that when they do come up they are snapped up pretty quickly. So, if this is true you probably need to contact someone at the Timeshare Store and let them know you are interested in a small contract.

I don't think they have the option of breaking up a contract.

Good luck

You cannot break up an existing contract, and the minimum purchase direct from DVC is 150 points. The smaller contracts that come up at the Timeshare Store or DVC by Resale usually come from when an owner decided to add on points after their initial purchase. Those add-ons are done as a separate contract with a minimum of 25 points.

The smaller contracts are very popular with people like you who want to buy in to DVC but don't want/need 150 points. You would do well to contact Tom Yeary or ******** Crawford. They're both very knowledgable and can help you find the contract that's right for you.

The reason you don't see the small contracts advertised very often is because there's a waitlist for them. If a small contract for, say, BCV comes up, the resellers have a list of people who are interested in that size contract, so they call them on the phone first. Only if no one wants that particular contract (for whatever reason), they'll list it for sale.

We're currently waitlisted for 50-60 points at VWL, but I'm sure there are a lot of people ahead of us. We've only been called once, and that was for a 25 point contract (which we declined).

Happy Haunt that was exactly the information I was looking for, we are pretty flexible as far as the resort we sign up for, I wouldn't mind Boardwalk, WL or OKW.

I have to talk to my husband and possibly think about giving them a call.

Contact anyone at the Timeshare Store and they will put you on a list. They did that for me and I did get a call. Just be prepared to buy on the spot, because you do not have time to think about it. There is always someone ready to snap it up, if you don't! :cool1:

Good luck and maybe a Welcome Home soon.

They will know what is in inventory and going to be listed online that afternoon. Tuesday is the big day for their listings. When I first was looking for a resale I was on TTS resale page while I was also on the phone with them talking about a contract. When I saw a 25 point vwl contract just appear I was told sometimes the smaller contracts go online before people are notified.

You do know you can most liely call DVC and get those points immediately for not that much more money, right?
