Considering a move to Orlando area.

I too had moved back down to Florida after living up in NYC for so many years.

What I did was a lot of research. I'll check those real estate sites like trulia, zillow, etc to compare prices and locations and then I'll go bust those addresses to check out the neighborhoods.

Orlando does have its "other side" just like every other city. Coming from NYC, there are sides of Orlando that is comparable to East New York and East Brooklyn.

We don't need to live on top of WDW but a reasonable commute for my daugher is desired. My commute is going to remain the distance between my coffee pot and the laptop.

I used to work at Disney and my condo was adjacent to Universal. (I could see/hear fireworks from my front porch.) One of the reasons I left Orlando was due to the fact that I always felt surrounded by tourists. So, while a reasonable commute for your daughter is wise, you don't want to be too close.

Although I agree with others that dealing with guests can be stressful, the benefit of working for a huge operation like Disney is that there are always openings in different areas. If someone gets a job working at the Front Desk of hotel and they discover they hate it, there's usually few options to transfer. If someone get a job working the Front Desk of Disney Resort and hates it, there are many, many, many other positions that might be better.

I wanted to thank everyone for this input and guidance. We returned this week from our trip and it was extremely helpful. We found a couple neighborhoods we think would fit us well, at least to start off during our rental period before we set down perm roots. We'll be researching them a little more remotely and looking to do a trip early next year for our apartment hunt with springtime move...

thanks!

Just wanted to give some words of encouragement to your daughter. There are actually several Disney employees that suffer from severe anxiety. If she thinks it is something she can do and as you put it won't change your job either it may be a wonderful change for her. Also just personally also living in NYC moving out of NYC may be what she needs! This city can really mess with people with the constant pace and crazy cost of living. You may find once she is out and has the ability to breath a little she may get a little better. Then having even a part time job at Disney may help even more. She'll never know if she can do it until she tries.

Also thank you for encouraging your daughter! So many people throw their hands up when dealing with mental illness and it sounds like you do the best you can by your daughter.

Exciting! Glad it went well. Good luck to you and your daughter on your new adventures :goodvibes

I wish it was that simple but that has been the 1 comfort in her life. The hurdle of sticking with work long enough to make a career is the next big thing and right now this looks like the best move we can make to assist with that.
