Considerate Cruisers

So, a post made by Jennifer 777 in the Inconsiderate Cruisers thread prompted me to post this thread about considerate cruisers that you may have encountered on cruises that you would like to share. :)

On our very first Disney cruise in 2013 (Costa Maya, Caymans and Cozumel) we had some wonderful tablemates who were veteran cruisers who gave us some invaluable tips to use on that cruise. They were friendly, forthcoming with information to my newbie questions and an all around delight. They had a younger child and they came to dinner the first night but then dined the rest of the cruise in Cabana's (or elsewhere) because they were concerned that he would not be able to stay up late to finish. I wish we could have spent more time with them, but the information they shared with us was invaluable.
Back then, I did not know about the Disboards or other venues for information, so they were a blessing.

How about you? Any stories about fellow passengers who stand out in your memory as being helpful, considerate or just good folks?

On the Dream, 9/15. We were chatting with a family in line for the Princess meet and greet. He was very interested in hearing about my husbands job as a helicopter pilot for the Marine Corps. They sought us out at dinner that night and sent us a round of drinks with a message thanking our family for his service, we were very surprised and reciprocated of course.

Sytrace, thanks so much for creating this thread!! After reading all then negative comments, it is so very good to see the bright side as well. I'm looking forward to meeting our tablemates and hope that we get along as well as you did with yours!! We have our first cruise in December 2016 so we cannot wait!

JessImo80 - how very cool! It is rare that we get to express our appreciation for the service of a military family in such a way. Like your cruisemates, please accept our thanks for your family's service as well.

I have to call out DD3. I know as her mom this story comes with a grain of salt, but it warned my heart.

We were in line for Anna and Elsa and DD was wearing the flashing ring I'd gotten all the girls for pirate night. The girl ahead of her saw it and asked where she bought it. I told her I had brought them on board with me. DD told the girl she could have hers since she liked it so much. The little girl was so surprised and grateful, and I was so impressed that DD did that.

Sorry. Mom moment.

Like so many things in life, I think we tend to overlook or ignore what went right and instead focus on what went wrong.

I think the most considerate cruisers are the people we often don't notice - pretty much the people who don't do the things listed in that other thread. The person who isn't a complete slob and cleans up after themselves when pool-deck tables and chairs are at a premium; the person who corrects their kid when they try cutting in line for the Mickey slide; the person who waits to get on the elevator in favor of the people who were waiting before them; the person who takes their disruptive child out into the hallway during a movie or show; the person who notifies a cast member when they spill a drink on the deck, and so on.

I think these common acts of courtesy happen so often that we often fail to notice or appreciate them, or the courtesy behind them. I guess it's a good thing that the decent folks are far and away the norm and the jerks are still the conspicuous outliers.
