Right after I posted that I made a lil call to Big Boy and ten minutes later I was eating my Slim Jim. Oh, yum! Carryout rocks.

It's my favorite Big Boy sandwich, too. I never order anything else.

Hilarie, I thought the same thing, especially after I saw Deb's pictures from the plane...then I thought of the 40 below...nah....I will stay in warm [for now] muggy Memphis.

And what IS a slim jim?

And what IS a slim jim?

It's a delicious sandwich made with lean ham, swiss cheese, special sauce, lettuce and tomato (with a pickle) grilled on a grecian bun. Mmmm. So good. Like the commercial says, it's a Michigan thang.

Just stopping by to say, "Hi".
Hey Robin! Good to see you.

Fun day today!

My daughter sings with the Alaska Children's Choir, and they were asked to sing for the Alaska State Stamp Ceremony, and Governor Sarah Palin spoke. Afterwards, my kids got to meet her. It was great fun...worth getting up in the -38 temperatures...:goodvibes

That is so cool and what a blessing! I cannot believe how cold it is over there. Here in So Cal, many of us bundle up if it gets to 55-60 degrees. Yikes!

The cold is getting really challenging...

The water in our bathroom is not working, and my DH and my DS's cars are not working...so he has to take my minivan to work tomorrow. We can't go to church, and if it isn't running by Monday, the kids' basketball and ballet won't happen either.

Hope it warms up soon! :)

:lmao: We went to see a comedian at the casino last spring (can't for the life of me remember which one...might have been the guy who opened for Ron White) and he said that he was freezing to death up here, having come up from SoCal. He said this is the difference between SoCal and Washington:

Washingtonian: "It's 65* outside! Break out the frisbee! Honey, have you seen my shorts?"

SoCalifornian: "OMG, it's 65*! Somebody light the fireplace! Honey, have you seen my parka?"

Ayup. That's about the size of it. :lmao:

ChocolateCocoa-sm.jpg

I didn't know minivans would do so well in sub sub sub zero temps...

Oh and SP won something else - the favorite neighbor award by zillow.com -
http://www.zillowblog.com/sarah-palin-voted-most-desireable-celebrity-neighbor/2008/12/ - second place was Oprah with poor Britney being listed as the worst neighbor...for the second time in a row!

Keep warm!

The first time I took my son to AKL/con we were out on the balcony one night deciding who would be "Chuck" and who would be "Dave". Any long time dissers will remember those names!

That's a blast from the past! Probably one of the best trip reports ever posted :thumbsup2

Hey guys. I wanted to stop in to the “new” home (nothing stays new for long with this crowd ;)) and say hi. I guess that it’s been about a month since I last posted or really paid any attention to the news or politics and I can tell you that it’s been nice. I returned last night from 11 days at Disney and am fully rested from a much needed break. I was staying at a deluxe resort and they put the newspaper outside of your door each morning. Can I tell you how much I don’t want to read the paper each morning while I’m on vacation? It’s too depressing. It was all that I could do to not kick the thing as I left my room every morning. So, here I am. I have no idea what is going on in this world, and I’m not certain that I much care, but I'm still here so I guess that no one has yet to blow it up and WWIII hasn’t commenced yet…. or has it?

Hi D!!! It's nice to see you back. Glad you had a nice time. :goodvibes

OK............where's your TR???? ;)

Geez, you sound like 52.9% of America that voted this past November. ;)

:rotfl:

I don't wish this kinda stuff on anyone. I'm so sorry to read about what y'all have dealt with. I'm closest to my mom, but also close to my dad. I don't have anything to do with an entire side of the family though. They're so jealous and petty, that I don't even acknowledge them as my family. They get left out of invitations, I haven't seen most of them in almost a decade, etc. It's a shame things aren't different, but I decided at a young age I wouldn't allow them to put me through what they put my other family members through.

Such a shame isn't it? Good for you that you stand up for yourself. Sometimes it's just not worth it to deal with the BS. My father's side of the family apparently feels the same way as he does. They haven't spoken to us since my parents split up. What makes me feel bad is that my DD, and my DN's will not know that side of their family. I hate that one day I'll have to explain to DD what happened, which umm, I'm not sure of  . I do have a loving, fantastic step-father, so I am greatful for that. :thumbsup2

You guys are so lucky!!! :goodvibes ITA that it would be totally worth it! The kids must have loved it.

Soooo..........:rolleyes1

I heard on the news this morning that Obama's are staying in a hotel for $20K a night!

Oh wait!!! Let me say it first..........

It's Bush's fault. :upsidedow

Hey guys:

I thought about posting this as a new thread, but didn't want the aggravation from the usual suspects. The global warming hoax is a real concern for me. With two teenagers, I've seen how this generation has been utterly brainwashed into believing this crap, and I fear we'll spend billions that we don't have on bogus "responses" to global warming, and, more importantly, move to deny basic freedoms under the guise of "saving the planet" (and who could be opposed to that!). (Of course, my offspring are impervious to such brainwashing and function often as a thorn in the side of their less-than-intellectual teachers who espouse such nonsense! :rotfl: ). One of my biggest issues with John McCain was his capitulation to the global warming nuts. It really was almost a deal-breaker for me…until I considered the alternative.

Anyhoo, a poster on huffingtonpost, of all places, has posted a fairly controversial piece calling on Al Gore to "apologize" for his global warming hysteria. It's controversial because this is absolute heresy among the liberal posters at huffingtonpost. I think the fact that they posted it suggests that the global warming hoax is finally sputtering to its inevitable end. I wasn't sure I'd see this revealed for the anti-intellectual nuttiness that it is in my lifetime, but it looks like it will be. :thumbsup2

Here are some excerpts and the link:

"First, the expression 'climate change' itself is a redundancy, and contains a lie. Climate has always changed, and always will. There has been no stable period of climate during the Holocene, our own climatic era, which began with the end of the last ice age 12,000 years ago.…One last thought on the expression 'climate change': It is a retreat from the earlier expression used by alarmists, 'manmade global warming,' which was more easily debunked. There are people in Mr. Gore's camp who now use instances of cold temperatures to prove the existence of 'climate change,' which is absurd, obscene, even.…

"Mr. Gore has gone so far to discourage debate on climate as to refer to those who question his simplistic view of the atmosphere as 'flat-Earthers.' This, too, is right on target, except for one tiny detail. It is exactly the opposite of the truth. Indeed, it is Mr. Gore and his brethren who are flat-Earthers.…

"To be told, as I have been, by Mr. Gore, again and again, that carbon dioxide is a grave threat to humankind is not just annoying, by the way, although it is that! To re-tool our economies in an effort to suppress carbon dioxide and its imaginary effect on climate, when other, graver problems exist is, simply put, wrong. Particulate pollution, such as that causing the Asian brown cloud, is a real problem. Two billion people on Earth living without electricity, in darkened huts and hovels polluted by charcoal smoke, is a real problem. So, let us indeed start a Manhattan Project-like mission to create alternative sources of energy. And, in the meantime, let us neither cripple our own economy by mislabeling carbon dioxide a pollutant nor discourage development in the Third World, where suffering continues unabated, day after day."

I'm so jealous. Our Big Boy closed up here, so the closest one to me is probably in Traverse City.

Holy cow - there are hotels that charge that much? Where is he staying? WHO exactly is paying for this?

 Hey all! I haven't taken the time to catch up on our new digs yet so bear with me.

We got back this morning at 4am and I need to go to the stores and restock our shelves, but I'll be back! (said in my best Terminator/Arnold voice ;) )

Hope y'all had an awesome holiday! Remind me never to vacation in Florida again without an AP :headache: . Frustrating being that close to the World, and not making it over to enjoy it. Blah. Ok, gotta boogie....

How's it going, TL? They close your local staryucks and you go into withdrawals?

MY Starbucks could probably run on my business alone!!;) That is my contribution to helping the economy!!:rotfl: :thumbsup2

We spent a glorious week (before Christmas) at WDW...Christmas week was busy, busy, busy. Dh was SICK for a week...beginning Christmas eve....and then it was my turn. Now.. my daughter is trying to drive me insane planning HER "perfect" wedding. All I hear from my little Bridezilla is "mine, mine, mine":scared1: Oh, Calgon take me away!!

Holy cow - there are hotels that charge that much? Where is he staying? WHO exactly is paying for this?

ludicrous. and you KNOW that if obama is paying for the hotel, he's going to write the amount off as a business expense, thereby not paying taxes on it.

(does anybody else use word to check their spelling prior to posting? i find great joy when the window hits on "obama" and i get to click the "ignore" button. :teeth:)

I do not but maybe I should just so I can hit ignore! :rotfl:

TL, I've only seen Bridezillas on clips on The Soup (yes, I love the snarkiness on that show) but if you referred to her as such...wow.
So when is your DD getting married?

Hey, Obama's commerce secretary nominee — Gov. Bill Richardson — has withdrawn his name for consideration amid a pay-to-play scandal. With a grand jury looking at him for corruption, it seems he can't answer any confirmation questions because, errr, they don't allow cabinet nominees to plead the fifth.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28493919/

So, we've got Obama's chief of staff embroiled in the Chicago governor's corruption, and a growing controversy over Hillary involved in pay-to-play to benefit Bill's library, and now Richardson stepping aside so he doesn't have to incriminate himself before Congress. Yup, it's gonna be a lonnnnng 4 years. Are there any dems left that aren't lining their pockets with corrupt money?

I think Soarin's down for the count - here it is:

And your siggie pics are beautiful...

Thanks for the link! And thanks for the compliment of my pictures. That is some of my work from a photography class I took in London several years ago. I’m into photography; I like film because I love to work in a darkroom (those pictures posted below I developed and printed myself and then scanned into the computer) but I finally bought a digital SLR last year. I didn’t take it to Disney with me. I only took my point and shoot camera as I didn’t want to haul a heavy – and expensive- camera around the theme parks with me. Kuddos to those on the photography board and those who contribute such awesome pictures on the picture of the day threads that do haul expensive photography equipment with them to get those wonderful shots; I don’t think I could ever do it myself.

Hi D!!! It's nice to see you back. Glad you had a nice time. :goodvibes

OK............where's your TR???? ;)

I'm working on it! I have hundreds of pictures to sort thru first and figure out what I’m uploading to photobucket to use and what I’m not. I went through four memory cards: one 2 GB, two 1 GB and a 512 MB. I took pictures of everything.

And I have to read Soarin's TR...so... I working on it. I working on it.

Oh, freak n-a (yes, I often create my own vocabulary)

They can find extremely nice accommodations that cost, oh, say 19k less per night. But they... :sad2: They are not the kind of people to live on less. They just want us to.

 Hey all! I haven't taken the time to catch up on our new digs yet so bear with me.

Hey Breezy! I promised you cake pictures so here they are:

10" vanilla cake with (I think ganache?) icing and strawberry mousse filling. It was from the Boardwalk Bakery and was served at Spoodles last Monday night. Very yummy.
